Alright! I went for my first residency for the Queens University limited rez MFA in creative writing (fiction). It was like summer camp! Yes the seminars were great and the workshops had my head spinning but I learned a lot and had a ridiculous blast doing it. My advisor is the novelist David Payne, he was really perfect for me and there are only three people in my group under him. Cool.
So much for fall, and while I had a stafford left over from 2003-4 I enrolled in the summer UWA masters in psych/counseling two classes, "Systems of Psychotherapy" and "Health Psychology" both under Dr. Ware. (yes, yes, I know under ware, ha ha.) He requires three total papers a week for the two classes and I'm a tad intimidated but I'll do my best. Two masters programs in one summer is weird and pretty scary.
The very coolest thing ever was getting my diploma from Charter Oak today in the mail. Bachelor of Arts with Honors. Though the degree is in psychology, it doesn't appear on the diploma (for all you folks who often ask. But, it was very cool, indeed.
All of this due to that road I started because Dr. Bear wrote one hell of a book. That's my progress. Hope everyone is well.

    Congratulations indeed.

And to put a third side on this triangle . . . I really really liked David Payne's "Confessions of a Taoist on Wall Street." The man drives the language so well, and tells a good story into the bargain. One of the great classes I took was a writing class with he who was then one of my favorite authors, George Rippey Stewart (Fire, Storm, Earth Abides . . . and Names on the Land, a realization that even a reference book can be fun to read.

John Bear, whose next (33rd?) book
may actually be the first novel

I haven't read "Taoist" yet. I hope to soon (if I didn't have to do three papers a week for psych I would have plenty of other time!) But I did read Ruin Creek a week ago. He is very talented and I'm hoping he can continue to help me through th MFA. Thanks to all for the great wishes. If I can do this (believe me) ANYONE can.
