Do only RA DL programs qualify for federal financial aid? Does anyone know of any inexpensive DL programs that qualify for federal financial aid(Master's programs in religion/philosophy/theology)? I'm so [IMG]!

RA is not the only kind of accredited program with access to federal financial aid. TRACS accreditation is acceptable and therefore I am assuming that AABC & ATS are also.

    For affordable Masters programs:

check out Jason Bakers site for a list of RA/ATS accredited DL Masters programs. http://www.bakersguide.com

TRACS accredited schools can be accessed at http://www.tracs.org
(American Bible College and Seminary is pretty reasonable)

If you were ex military I would say check out Liberty U (RA/TRACS). Very inexpensive tuition for military using benefits. They have an MAR & M.Div. by DL. The M.Div. requires some short visits to Virginia.

Last of all I would also say that there are foreign options, which others are far more qualified to discuss. These include:

    UNISA
    Potch
    SATS/University of Zululand

PS After viewing your web site I have to ask are you the one who did the Aardvark U joke??
Some of the links on your site are of concern.

    North,

Where did you get the information that Unisa and the other RSA schools you mention qualify to disburse U.S. federal aid? They do not have a Federal School Code (although many foreign schools do). The U.S. Department of Ed states that foreign schools without federal codes sometimes qualify to disburse aid. Last month I called the Dept of Ed to inquire, and they stated that the University of Cape Town and the University of Stellenbasch were the only South African universities on their approved list for participation in federal aid programs. They suggested that I contact the University of South Africa directly to see whether they have an OPE ID# that allows participation in federal aid programs. I have made the inquiry and am awaiting a reply from Unisa.

This is an issue of interest even if you are not looking for a loan or grant. In order to claim the lifetime learning tax credit, the institution must be eligible to participate in a U.S. Dept of Ed student aid program.

I would be very glad to confirm that Unisa is eligible for student aid programs, so if you can point to the website or other information source, that would be great. Thank you,

    Alex

My apologies Alex. As I re read my post I realized that your interpretation would be a logical one.

I did not mean that the SA schools were approved for Federal Loans, I meant that they could be an affordable option if one did not have access to federal loans. That of course is not the way that portion read. Oooops! [IMG]
