Hello all, I am new to this forum. I am glad I found it, because I have been looking for some opinions on online degrees. Well here goes....

I am an IT administrator, with a B.S in Computer Info Sys. from a traditional school. I hope to some day get into management, but I am really not good at taking standardized test and GPA was a 2.7. I have been looking into some DL MBA programs that I might have a chance at, particularly NOVA and CSUDH. I know Nova has been around sometime, but I'm not sure if I want to add another student loan to my current loan. CSUDH seems like it has a respectable program, but I have to take the GMAT. I would like some of your opinons on which route would be the best.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Have you decided that CSUDH and Nove are the only ones you're going to consider? If not, you should check out Jonnie's Distance Learning Page, which lists over 200 MBA programs available by DL.

Like Bruce asked, are you limiting choices to CSUDH and Nova? If not, there are other respectable programs out there. Some are competitively priced and do not require the GMAT. Be aware that with an undergrad degree in IT you will most probably be required to complete 8 credits of bridge course at CSUDH. Some programs that you may or may not have considered are:

Bellevue (no GMAT, 2.5 GPA, no extra credits if non business undergrad, cost about $10600)

Baker (no GMAT, 2.5 GPA, cost about $12000)

Now admittedly neither is a name school, but they are accredited and relatively inexpensive.

Morehead State requires the GMAT but runs around $13700 and is AACSB.

If you are stuck on CSUDH and Nova my personal preference based on nothing in particular is CSUDH. From memory the GMAT score minimum is something like 25th percentile (with 25th percentile minimums on both parts). Hopefully that would be doable for you.

    Not Really

Hey Guys, thanks for the responses! I'm not totally stuck on those two, I just want a name school that is a tradional school also.(NOT JUST AN ONLINE SCHOOL) These two schools fit what I'm looking for, but I will take a look at the other schools on jonnies page. I have a minor in business, so I hope that would help in not having to take those bridge classes.

    Thanks again!

It's good that you're going to look at other options but if you see a program that you really like, and if it requires the GMAT, just take the darn test. If you,ve got some decent work experience, they'll let you in.

You still have many choices. Another good place to look is the Geteducated.com website. They offer a free guide to DL Graduate Business schools in downloadable PDF format. Good luck.

    Personally I chose CSU-DH because:

    1. It is a real public university with roots. (the MBA program is the same for online as it is on campus)

    2. The cost. Around 10K (plus a lot in books).

    3. I found the staff so far to be very nice. I am starting my first bridge class and it has a maximum of 25 students which makes it easier than other online programs to get individual attention.

    4. The GMAT requirement is frankly minimal. Although I screwed up the math portion, I was still able to get within the 25% and 450 to get in. You will probably have to get higher than 500 to get accepted with a 2.7 (they don't have automatic acceptance - they do turn people away).

The program is trying to get AACSB accredited. I hope that it accomplishes this before I graduate in late 2005.

Good luck with your choices. Have you checked out Colorado State U in Colorado Springs? That was my second choice.

    Morehead State

I did my MBA through a real brick and mortar school online, Morehead State University. They are even AACSB accredited!

    Re: Morehead State

    Cogent.

Morehead State is on my short list of favourite MBA programs (even though I'm not ready to start right at the moment).

    If I may ask...

How'd you like the program, were proctored exams required, how many hours a week did you work, how long did it take, did you like it, learn a lot, and so on and so on and so on.
