    Ok....

since there has been so much discussion regarding easy vs rigorous Phd programs and DL vs. RA Phd's being more or less demanding, I decided to do a poll on this matter.:D

There is a problem in how you posed the question. For example, I have seen very little actual evidence to support the general statement that RA BM produces generally superior outcomes than accredited DL programs. However, that being said, I would not hesitate to say that the B&M are definitely seen as more demanding. The perception is most certainly there. The reality is what is, as yet, unsubstantiated.

So if your question is about feelings and perception, most certainly RA B&M would be the hands down number one. A clear runaway. If your question is to get at something more empirical, that is up in the air.

    I get no respect!

    Dr Gina:

I looked at your survey results and saw that the no residency option had garnered second place. Correct me if I'm wrong but with the exception of NCU the vast majority of dl RA doc programs all have some residency requirement. These include Union Institute, Fielding, Saybrook, Capella, NSU, and Walden.

How many pure DL RA docs are actually available? does anyone have any idea?

We only know of North central and Touro international. However, Touro International is attached to Touro College so it would not be considered a DL school for some people given the association with Touro college.

I agree with Paul on this one. The question is not useful as evidence that Virtual accredited schools are less, same or more rigorous than other type of schools. You need to find a variable that can be correlated with the rigourness of the school. I would propose to use the number of publications found at high ranked journals from graduates of DL virtual schools vs other types as a possible way to measure this. When one submits a paper for review, the paper is blinded so reviewers don't use things like school of graduation as bias element to accept a paper. So this could be a good indicator of rigourness and variable for comparisson.

In hindsight, I should have phrased the question to what type of PhD education would you more likely choose, and looked for responses in that way. I think it would have changed the stats somewhat.
