Can anyone tell me if there are any Universities that grant a PhD for a dissertation research you have already done but never published? Basically, doing the dissertation first and then handing it in to be evaluated, graded and awarded the degree based on that research. :D

Never heard of one. The whole point of doing a PhD is to do some type of research that leads to a dissertation. To hand one in at the beginning goes against that.

Don't even mention you have one written already. You are better off doing a regular PhD program and use the dissertation you have as a starting point. Then make revisions or whatever that's required along the way.

There's a ton of information about it. There's the Bear's Guide to MBAs. There's the schools website at http://www.ebsmba.com/. There's the unofficial student run website at http://watercooler.20m.com, and there's this forum. Do a search of past posts and you will find a ton of information.

To get a broad view of MBAs, I recommend getting the Bear's guide. It's worth it.

    edowave,

Is your PhD at UF in business? Is it online?

Although your dissertation can be used as a starting point, you probably will need to do a lot more work if your dissertation has things like:

-Dated references (Most research supervisors won't accept a dissertation if the vast majority of your references are too old (more than 5 years)).
-If the problem has already been researched
-If the dissertation does not follow the format of the university
-Research methodology and results not consistent with university regulations

You will also very hard to find a supervisor that fits 100% with your present dissertation. Some supervisors won't even take your research topic while others might.

When I started my DBA I had the intention of continuing with my MBA dissertation but I just found too many obstacles that I decided to start a new one from scratch.

The other possibility is to publish several articles derived from your dissertation and try to get a PhD by publication.

I have known of state approved non-RA schools that have done this kind of thing in the past, but I know of no regionally accredited school in the U.S. that would award a PhD completely based on work done prior to entering the program.

My PhD is in Agricultural and Biological Systems Management. It's an interdisicplinary degree in the Department of Agricultural Engineering. My research is on the use of GIS and Remote Sensing for environmental economic applications.

At least that's the plan. I'm only into my second term and I still have to write my proposal, do a lit review, ect, ect.

It is not online, although there are a few classes that can be taken online.
