I am interested in AU's BA Psychology program.

I am a Bachelor of Social Sciences graduate and I would like to take a Psychology degree program in order to further my studies in Clinical Psychology in Hong Kong.

Therefore, I need to take a Psychology program and complete it beore August 2005.

I've contacted an US RA University which offered Psychology program in Hong Kong, Upper Iowa University. After evaluation of my transcript and public exam records, they replied me that I don't need to take any GE courses but only take several Psychology courses. And I can complete my BA by credits transfer within 8 months. The total tuition fee after credits transfer is US4231

I just want to know, besides UIU, are there any institutions are available.

    Thanks a lot!!

Since you already have a degree, Athabasca U's policy will be that you complete the equivalent of two years of studies to obtain your second undergraduate degree. So, technically you could complete it by Aug 2005, but that would be one heckuva courseload for you. An advantage to AU is that you could basically complete your courses as quickly as you want (you only need about a month lead time to write an exam). So I would say that--because of your personal requirements--Athabasca U is not your best choice unless you are very dedicated and gung ho about it.

    Thanks!

How much would be the fee? And, any application fee needed? Since I would like to know how many credits can be exempted before make the decision.

    Thanks a lot!

Choices in Psychology is rather limited in Hong Kong.

Open University Hong Kong can be one option. Though it cannot be denied that people don't see their standard equally with other institutions in Hong Kong.

Another option is the BA programme by U. of Waterloo, with the support of a company called Institue of Advanced Learning (www.in-learning.com). They allow students to take a major in Psychology. This is an Arts program. I am not very sure whether this suits the purpose of further study.

But I am not sure if they allow you to finish it next year.

The competition in getting a place in Clinical Psychology in Hong Kong is very keen, due to very low in-take. A reputable programme is definitely an advantage. You will be competing with many of the local graduates.

    Wish you Good Luck.

    How about Derby University, UK?

Yes, I knew that, therefore I need to looking for a better school before applying Clinical Psychology next year.

    Thanks!

    There is a $ 50 admission fee, with a
$ 200 course evaluation fee if you need to have your transfer credits assessed right away (or $ 55 if you wait until you've completed 6 credit hours). For International Students, a 3 credit course costs $ 828 (including books), so if you need 30 credit hours to obtain the BA (Psych), it will cost $ 8280. (All amounts are in Canadian dollars--refer to http://www.athabascau.ca/calendar/04/Print/Cal05.pdf for more detailed information about fees). Keep in mind that the amount of credits that you will need to take at AU will vary depending on your previous academic work.

You might want to visit their website at http://www.athabascau.ca for general information, and http://www.askau.ca if you have specific questions that you want answered.

    Regards,

    Darren.

According to Good University Guide 2005 (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,716,00.html), University of Derby ranked 95 out of 99 Universities in UK, and their Psychology is ranked 71 out of 88

In terms of fame, I would suggest Waterloo, though it is better to check whether its BA program can fit into the purpose of further studies

(http://www.dce.uwaterloo.ca/de/Faculty_of_Arts_Requirements.html#Psychology) and I guess the '4-Year Psychology' Option. But better check with local center.

The BA in Psychology from Waterloo offered via distance learning is a 3-year pass degree. This is not typically good enough for admission to a graduate program in Psychology. Also, Waterloo has a limit to the number of distance education courses you can take in any given year as a distance learner. So in this instance, Waterloo is not the good choice.

Also, the Athabasca U program, for the original poster, would require 60 credits (AU credits) for the second degree, which is equivalent to 20 full courses (being that there are 10 full courses for one year of study). Not 30, as someone above indicated.

Athabasca University is a good school...I just finished up an upper level geology course with them.

The tutor (Teaching Asst) and the Professor were very helpful...and good course.

HOWEVER, the only disadvantage is the time frame to send and receive assignments and exams (via Distance Learning).

A major pain in the ***!!!!!!!!!!

It does not matter whether or not you send them Express, Overnight, regular mail, UPS, FEDEX, USPS...it takes forever!!!

Literally, any package, letter, mail, etc...is held up at the border for at least 5 days (why? I don't know)

But be prepared for a long, long transition period between assignments, graded assignments, and exams.

Out of curiousity, did you ever try to send assignments in by email? I know that receiving a "hard copy" of marked assignments back from a tutor can take time, but the results for each one is usually posted on the online gradebook within a week of being sent to the tutor.

Indeed, if I would like to apply for clinical program in HK, degree with hons is important, therefore I may need to apply for UK degree. And, the fee for Derby's is USD600 each course. to minimise the cost, can anyone suggest low-priced RA online credit courses available and then I can use them to transfer.
