After follwing some of the earlier post about unizul, I contacted them about the possibility of doing a Thd. at their institution. I was told that my previous academic work was sufficient for admission; however, South Africa would no longer subsidize foreign students (beginning in 2005) and that fees will more than likely triple. I inquired if they had a payment plan and was told the following about the present pay structure for foreign doctoral students: on registration pay R 3500 and next year R 3500 (not sure if this means the new academic year or after the first year) and R 1000 before graduation. Is there anyone that can explain to me how this pay structure really works? How does it relate to the academic calendar? How much time are you allowed between paying the registration fee and making the next payment? Are there any unizul students out there that can answer the questions?

As I enrolled into Unizul through SATS, no longer an option I understand, I pay through SATS annually and in accord with the time I enrolled. Sorry I cannot address your issues. Have you emailed the faculty secretary for that info? According to the UZ site, ThD tuition has been reduced since I enrolled. One pays tuition only two rears and annual registration fee thereafter. My total cost will be around $2500-$2800. I am happy with the program.

    MA Biblical Studies

Would like to do the MA Biblical Studies at Univ of Zululand. Can it be done completely online? What is the tuition fees like for this programme? What is coursework like for this programme and what is the length of the programme? Can anybody help me with these questions?

After sprinting through the unizulu website it's not clear to me that they offer this degree anymore.

    Distance Learning in SAA

Thank for your quick response to the Univ of Zululand question. But if the MA Biblical Studies is no longer offered, is there a substitute that can be done by distance learning? What I need to know is if the MA courses (with coursework) offered by institution such as Zululand can be completed entirely by distance learning? What I really need is an inexpensive accredited MA Biblical Studies or MA New Test. programme to equip me for doctoral work. The programme does not have to be from a SA institution, but it needs to be accredited and affordable, say US$6000 or less.

It appears that University of Zululand no longer offers any distance programs at all, although it certainly did, years ago. It is a "contact only" B&M university nowadays, with about 15,000 students. The original six faculties included one for Religion, but the six were reduced to four some time ago. IIRC, a once-frequent DI poster, "Uncle Janko" completed a distance Doctorate from UniZul, not long before his untimely death in an auto accident, a few years back.

A history here: University of Zululand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Faulkner program mentioned by Ted works out to $480 x 36 (credits) = $17,280 plus books and incidental fees. About three times Alibama's stated budget...

Thanks guy for your participation in the matter under consideration. It seems that SATS might be my best bet. The only problem is that any programme (MA Biblical Studies/New Test Studies) would have to include some courses that I did not cover in an earlier study. UNISA MA Biblical Studies programmes are all research only programmes. And even if they have structured MA programmes, they are not flexible, i.e. you are not allowed to select a course or two that you might need.
