    Hi,

Funny how a topic relating to CGAs is just below.

Anyhow, I need to complete a Bach degree to fulfill my CGA designation requirements. Is anyone aware of any non-Canadian degrees that will accept CGA courses for transfer? Meaning is there a uni that has a policy in place so that I would not have to go through ECE.

I am aware of the Canadian options such as Laurentian, Sait etc.

    Thanks!

Even if you could get a school to recognize the courses they would probably only allow 3 credits each. 16 courses at 3 credits is only 48 out of 120 needed.

The CGAs have negotiated credit for their courses at specific schools, who have evaluated their courses. Some courses are worth more than 3 credits and some degrees require only 90 credits in Canada.

Did you miss out on the degree program at the U of Calgary which seems to be ending? I know someone still on that track. The U of Calgary degree program was/is a good deal.

I would agree with Dennis that it would be easier to get your bachelors degree through one of CGA's partners (e.g. Laurentian, SAIT). Was there any particular reason why you would prefer a non-Canadian school?

    Thanks for the responses.

I did miss out on the UofC degree opportunity. :(

The SAIT degree is an applied degree so if I ever plan on going into a masters program I think I would run into problems.

The Laurentian degree is probably what I will be doing. I spoke at length with someone today about it. Seems to be the best route. I do have other uni credits lying about, and Laurentian needs an additional 12, which I have. Also no problem for getting into a masters program.

I do plan on getting down to the states in the future, that is why I was asking about non-Canuck degrees.

    Thanks!!

Since you are planning on going to the U.S., have you considered getting the CPA designation? It seems that many Canadian accountants are going this route in addition to earning a CA/CGA designation.

Would you be pursuing a masters degree in accounting, MBA, or other masters? At the moment, I am studying for the UFE and thinking about a masters degree after that.

My plans run into the 5-10 yr frame for moving to the USA. That was the reason for trying to find a program that will take my CGA courses as a block transfer. There are a few schools in Canada that will take the entire CGA program as a transfer of 90credits, unfortunately those are located away from me.

The CPA is always something to look at. I have no plans of going into public practice so I am not sure if it is worthwhile to be honest. When you become a CA I believe you can challenge the CPA exam, not quite sure. Then again with the new CMA/CA merger that will might change.

Which Masters I will pursue is unknown. I do know it will not be the MBA. I want something a little more specific. Maybe finance, or I was thinking about a Masters in Construction Management. Being that I am working as an assistant controller in that industry I think it would be a great asset.

Anyhow, good luck with the UFE. I wrote an auditing exam today, now only 2 months to get my marks. :(
