Not too sure about the validity of this letter. Nevertheless, it was posted in the collogehints.com discussion forum.

    Dear Mr. *****,

The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) held their semi-annual meeting this past weekend. California Coast University was on their agenda vote regarding the granting of initial accreditation. The vote on accreditation for this University was deferred until the January 2005 Commission meeting.

While we had certainly hoped we would receive accreditation on our first attempt, we have learned that the majority of institutions are deferred to the following Accrediting Commission meeting. It is our understanding that the Accrediting Commission defers institutions pending receipt of additional information regarding the institution.

As you may know, California Coast University undertook major revisions of its academic programming during the past 2 years. While these revisions provided both an opportunity to strengthen our programs and to meet DETC requirements, they left little time to gather much information on the changes. The following six months will give us ample time to analyze and provide additional information regarding our programs and offerings. Through this, there is every reason to believe that we will be successful
    at the next Commission meeting.

The accreditation process has been a long journey and I want to thank you for your unwavering support of California Coast University. Over the next several months we will continue to update you on our progress.

    Sincerely,

    Thomas M. Neal
    President
