Guys Im about to start my Masters in Health Science/Public Health with Touro University International. Does anyone have any recommendations, tips, things to look for? Does anyone know what is up with thier accreditation issues, June is here and from what I have read this month they would get a decision. I also have the option of the Masters in Biotechnology with UMUC, any advice or suggestions on that option. By the way I have Biology/Chemistry undergrad degrees from University of Texas.

My tip would be that when you are addressing a mixed gender audience, you should not address them as "guys."

It really doesn't make any differnece to me, and I trust that you did not intend any gender bias, but to some people it is a big deal.

I trust that you did not intend any bias, but you should be aware that -- right or wrong -- there are plenty of people in academia who whould take offense to this.

Other than that, I would suggest doing a search of the discussions here. There have been many discussions of Touro, their accreditation, their cost relative to other similar programs, etc.

    No bias here trust me.
What kind of job do I want to go into. Well, I would really like to go into public health to somehow or another affect policy and whatnot. But on the other hand, the private sector in biotechnology is very inviting and would probably enjoy that field as well. Im undecided in which program to go for, this is why I want you guys opinion on the schools and if you have any direct or indirect knowledge of this specific programs it would really help me out.

Uh, Aristotle, I forgot this in my earlier post. Have you used the search function (top right corner of the screen) to check out earlier stuff on Touro? If not, do this while waiting for some current replies. Best of luck to you. Janko

Is it MSc in Health or MPH (Public Health) ...

    Aristotle,

Which is it? Cioz the two are different.

I would stick with MPH which has become trendy and
fashinable and also has a reputable professional
    body (APHA).

    ridiculous...

    Mr. Hampton,

Please explain to me how saying "guys" is bias? If it is no big deal to you, why make the statement? You seem to be the only one that complained. When did free speech all of the sudden disappear? I didn't see him use any racial or gender slurs, or seem to have any intent on offending anyone. It seems you are attacking a rather generally used slang, and that statement is extremely pompous in nature. I had many professors @ Longwood U and UVA that used the term "guys," all were PhD’s and well respected in their fields.

  12. Re: ridiculous...

I totally agree. You are absolutely 100% correct. Anyone who does not agree must be a mill shill.

Its acutally a Masters in Health Science specilizing in Public Health. Or the Masters in Biotechnology from UMUC. I didn't mean to offend anyone, as guys, is a term used to included men and women, atlease now at days. Anyway if some one has any advice other than my use of the 21 century language, I would trully appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Deletion of my post

In my opinion, the deletion of my post was extremely unfair. If Ms. Hampton is allowed to start trouble, why aren't other registered users permitted to rebut the nonsense? Hampton's unsolicited tip was uncalled for. His response, along with the deletion of my post, is precisely why people are leaving this forum, and locating more friendly venues. I know it must be tough to moderate such a large group, but in this case, I think you censored the wrong person. Just an honest opinion.

    I totally agree,

Im not trying to start trouble by the way, I have just noticed a few things as of late. I havent posted in a LONG time and have only posted on rare occasions throughout. However, what I am starting to notice on alot of threads that I read through is that the initial post is a question more or less. Then the second might be a response and by the third and fourth post, the thread has lost total relevance from it's initial topic. I dont know why its been like that lately. Ms. Hampton, in my opinion, that comment was uncalled for. To actually log in and post a reply about something, and then say you dont care, is counter-intuitive. You in fact, DO CARE, just let it go, "GUYS" was simply intended for meaning "EVERYONE", and an overwhelming majority of people wouldint have interpreted it in that way.

    Re: ridiculous...

According to The American Heritgage Dictionary the most accepted definition of the term "guy" is "a man." Yes, it is informally permissble to use the term to describe either gender.

I think it is hilarious that you jump to the ridiculous question: "When did free speech all of the sudden disappear?."

I didn't suggest that he did not have the right to say what he did. I did not even suggest that I believe what he said was wrong. My point was that there are a lot of people in academia who would take offense to it. That is a fact. If you choose to ignore that fact, it's fine with me. But it is something that anyone embarking on a graduate program should be aware of, in my opinion.

    Re: Deletion of my post

An attempted insult about my name from someone who is too scared to use his/her own name. How quaint. It's very fitting that you identify yourself with a chickenhawk.

Hampton, you are a trouble maker, and you know it. Someone came here with a legitimate question, and instead if helping, you responded with an unsolicited tip totally unrelated to the topic.

PS: My name is Michael Perone, and I live in South NJ. What state do you live in Hampton?

In any event, from what I have read elsewhere, the TUI programs are quite rewarding. Touro is affiliated with a med school in CA, and an ABA approved law school in NY. In my opinion, this gives TUI more credibility.

I think it was a simple suggestion to use non-gender specific titles. Not a big deal, don't fight it, it was a good point (I think we all can be reminded of a great diverse world out there!)
