    Folks,
I'm considering enrolling in NCU (Northcentral) University. Any comments would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum!

Use the search command to look for NCU and Northcentral University. It has been a topic on this forum a number of times.

Seems to boil down to the fact that at the moment it is a bit of a gamble. NCU appears about to become a candidate for accreditation which is a good sign. Odds then seem to be in it's favor that it will become accredited. However, Dr. Bear has stories of schools that become candidates and for one reason or another do not go on to achieve accreditation. So, you gamble a bit and if you win you get an accredited Ph.D. inexpensively, if you lose you have an expensive piece of paper.

What kind of degree are you looking for?

I think a relevant factor is the level of the degree. If your interest is in a doctorate, then your other options are few and expensive (although some of the Australian ones, and there are many, are in the same ball park (cricket pitch?).

If it is a Master's or Bachelor's, there are so very many already-accredited options that there is much less need to consider that risk.

Northcentral seems confident, and we'll know soon about candidacy -- but it is the case that the North Central Association has never granted candidacy (or accreditation) to a school with a totally non-resident doctorate.

So, since Candidacy Announcement #2 (they didn't get it on their first try) is due so soon, and will make such a difference, it might well pay to wait.

Welcome to DegreeInfo.com, Kristian, all the way from the Dominican Republic.

NCU seems sincere in its effort to gain regional accreditation, but as has been stated, this remains to be seen. It may indeed be a solid opportunity to earn an accredited degree, if NCU achieves RA. If not, one would have a state approved degree, which according to recent data carries far less recognition among HR personnel and admissions officers than RA, GAAP, etc.
