Dear All, Can anyone tell me which DL institutions will accept DETC accredited degree?? Thanks a lot??
Hi, I know the following Universities accept DETC. - University of Phoenix - Capella University - There are more, but I it doesn't pop-up in my mind...so that's all I can contribute.
I've asked Capella by email whether they will accept DETC or not, and he answered me that Capella will only accept credits from RA!
Ask again. At least one poster, PaulC, was able to enter Capella's doctoral program with a DETC-accredited master's. Do not expect any kind of unanimity on this subject, even within the same university. Ask. Ask again. Negotiate. Shop around.
Hi Shirley - Northcentral will accept DETC graduates. Capella will, even though they often say no when asked. We have had a number of our students go on to Capella. Very few schools will issue a blanket invitation the way Northcentral did so it is best to identify where you want to go and then start checking. Mary A
Then, how about credit transfer, if I've taken 4 courses for DETC institution, and I would like to apply for NCU degree program, will those courses be transfered?
1. Sometimes at the Master's level, and more often at the doctoral level, admissions policies (and admissions policy waivers) are made at the departmental level, not by the admissions office. This could be one reason for getting different advice from the same school. 2. If, as my research shows, roughly 40% of US schools will accept DETC somwhere between "sometimes" and "usually," that would suggest well over 1,000 that do.
Rich is correct in that I did transfer my DETC MS into a Capella doctoral program. While being DETC accredited was one of the filters for acceptance, perhaps a bigger filter was the articulation agreement that Aspen University (fka ISIM) worked to achieve with Capella. Capella reviewed the MS program at Aspen, and this, in addition to being DETC accredited, was how Capella came to accept my MS courses in transfer. This groundwork by Aspen was done nearly five years ago, thank you very much. Paul C.
The University of West Alabama (UWA) accepts DETC credit. They actually have a formal agreement with Columbia Southern, a DETC school. Because the UWA catalog is vague on this issue, I wrote to them a while ago, asking them to clarify their policy on the acceptance of NA credit. My email was as follows: "The UWA catalog specifies that in order to be accepted into a graduate program, a student most hold an undergarduate degree from an accredited institution. What does UWA consider accredited? Since Columbia Southern is accredited by the DETC, a national accrediting agency, does UWA accept degrees granted by schools that are accredited by other national agencies, such as the AABC and TRACS? Thank you." Their response was simple and direct: "Accredited means an agency recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education." Pug
Would it be showing that the acceptance may depens on the quality and network of individual DETC-accredited Institution?
<<Would it be showing that the acceptance may depens on the quality and network of individual DETC-accredited Institution?>> I don't think so. They issued a blanket statement to me, in writing, that an undergraduate degree that was accredited by an USDE recognized agency, was considered sufficient to enter graduate studies. That being said, it is always safer to call the school in advance and ask them. Pug
UWA also conducts on-campus courses in collaboration with CSU. http://www.columbiasouthern.edu/Features/UWASummerProgram.htm Peter Chin
I'd feel more comfortable with the quote if: a. it said "any" instead of "an"; and b. You could find it in a catalog or on their website (or they would put it in writing). I have nothing against UWA accepting DETC bachelor's degrees, but I would want to have some sort of proof before I attempted to actually do it. Disclosure: I am a current student at UWA in the M.Ed. in School Counseling program. Tom Nixon
