I am a new member. I've seen a lot of posts on Saint Regis University (I think it’s in Liberia??), but not Regis University (Denver,Colorado). So I thought I would start a thread on Regis University. As you might have guessed, I am a Regis alumnus. I finished the Regis online MBA program in May 2002. I would like to share my Regis experience (mostly positive) with anyone considering obtaining an online degree.

I attended Norwich University in Vermont where I received a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1997. (BTW, Norwich began its own online MBA program just recently.) After two years in the work force, I decided to further my education. Regis seemed to be a viable option for several reasons, one of which was that I worked for a company that required lots of travel. The program gave me the flexibility that I would have been denied had I decided to attend a traditional brick-and-mortar school.

My previous employer and my current employer also reimbursed my tuition. This is one of the advantages of going to school while having a full-time job.

Anyway, the bottom line is that the Regis MBA curriculum was rigorous and very demanding. It took me three years part-time to complete the program. It took a lot of discipline and self-motivation to finish the course. There is no room for slackers. In addition to having a full-time job in the private sector and being in the Army Reserve, I easily put in 20-30 hours per week dedicated to the MBA course load. I wrote pages upon pages of research paper just about every week in addition to the required virtual classroom participation and discussion boards.

My classmates were literally from around the world. Many were also on Active Duty. We had a Naval Aviator aboard the USS Enterprise, a Green Beret in an undisclosed location somewhere in the Middle East (probably directing fire on the Taliban), and an Air Force pilot. We also had professionals from all walks of life with different work experience. It was an amazing learning experience.

The professors / facilitators were very professional, helpful, understanding and knowledgeable as well. After 9-11, my unit was activated to help out at the WTC in NYC (my unit was out of Philadelphia- only 2 hrs away from NYC). The professor gave me a couple of weeks to catch up. There was also a time when a professor gave me the same slack because my 2-week annual training with the Army interfered with his class.

Did the program help me advance in my career? I’m not going to lie, so my answer is a resounding “NO.” (My boss strongly feels that I add more value to the company as an engineer rather than a manager.) Personally, however, I feel that I am more marketable. Since I finished the program I have started two businesses which I run on a part-time basis until one (or both) succeeds, then I can finally fire my boss. One business deals with the financial industry and the other one deals with online retail.

The Regis experience truly gave me an understanding and utmost respect for what the Jesuit tradition is all about.

Thank you for the post! I have been considering undertaking the MSc in Computer Information Technology program from Regis, so it is good to hear someone's first hand opinion. I still haven't quite decided yet, but your post helps, thanks.

    Casey.

I'm glad the post assisted you in some way. I am sure you are aware that an online program is not as easy as it looks. It takes lots of discipline and self-motivation to finish.

Good luck to you and your career.

    Glad for the positive outcome!

I attended Regis Univ. Denver, CO. back in 2001 and I had some troubles with the faculty and the program and the whole thing turned out to be a nightmare...which almost made me quit college altogether (it was the MSM Program). Hopefully (and from what it sounds like from your posts), the MBA Program is much better organized and well worth the effort. But you are absolutely correct; the school makes you work "More than Rigorously" to earn every second of every credit hour that you get! In fact, I would not recommend Regis to anyone unless they really have the drive and determination to stay the course...because it is a tough one!

By the way...I served in the Mid-Atlantic BN of USAREC in Philly for a while...then we moved out to Lakehurst NAES. We trained with a lot of different Units...I wonder if we crossed paths.

    Cheers!
