    Hi everybody!

I just found this site this past weekend, what a great source of
info on DL! I will finish my BA in about 5 weeks and want to continue to get my MBA.

I just found out the College I am taking my BA at is not accredited, what a bummer!! There is NO way I will continue with my MBA there. I don't have GRE or GMAT and don't want to get it so my choices are limited for a University. The 'Big 3' do not interest me, nothing wrong with them, just my preference.

I really liked Troy State U but they told me a GRE or GMAT is required :(. I have to forget this one.

Which U would you choose if it was your choice... Liberty or Walden?. Liberty's residency is not a problem and I don't mind it being Christian. I also noticed Nova Southeastern but not sure about that one. A friend's sister got her BA at Walden and is apparently pleased with them.

Your input is appreciated! :) I want to make sure I get into an 'accredited' school this time.

    Hi daisy,

If your BA is not accredited, what makes you think that any of the accredited school will accept you into their master's degree program?

    Hi Daisy,

You just found out that your college is not accredited...how can that be?

Some universities will consider admitting students without an accredited degree on a case-by-case basis, so you will need to contact the school directly.

    This is from Walden's website:

"Applicants to a master's level program must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Some master's programs require two years of professional experience. Specific requirements vary by program and specialization"

This is from Liberty's website. You are supposed to send them:

"Official transcript of an appropriate degree earned from a regionally accredited institution or school accredited by another accrediting agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education. "

Is your school accredited by a national accreditor, such as the Distance Education & Training Council, the American Academy of Liberal Education or the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools? If so, you may have a chance at acceptance with Liberty. You will have a more difficult time with Walden.

I am doing my BA at 'Canyon College' Idaho. They claim to be accredited but from what I read here, they are not.

I really want to get my MBA so I guess I will have to apply to a few Unibversity and see what happens...

    Bad news, Daisy...

Canyon College is a not-very-reputable institution that cannot legally enroll students in it's own state (red flag), that uses misleading language from the Department of Education about accreditation (another red flag) and then claims accreditation from three bogus agencies (flag's getting redder by the minute).

If you use the search feature of Degreeinfo, you will find quite a bit of info on Canyon College. Frankly, I would be surprised if any legitimately accredited university would recognize a degree from Canyon College...sorry.

I did read the info from this site on them. It will be a shame if I spent all that money for nothing.

I must say the course contents are very good though, I was/am very impress by that and the instructors are good. The service from the school itself is awful though, I don't have anything positive to say about them.

Wish I found this site 1 1/2 yr ago!

    Hi Daisy

I can think of two good ways out of the situation you are in. The first and probably the best would be to finish a Bachelor's from one of the big three like COSC. Randell1234 did this after getting a Bachelor's from CCU. Check out Lawrie's site for how do this in under 6 months. The second would be to apply to Heriott Watt MBA program which doesn't require a first degree. It is a tough program but would save you time by skipping the first degree. Good luck.

    Liberty University

    Daisy,

Before you go spending a lot of $$$ with COSC, contact Liberty University. The Liberty Graduate Catalog states the following with regard to Admission (page 12): "Applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from an unaccredited institution may be admitted to a master’s degree program on Academic Probation status. The student must earn a minimum cumulative GPA
of 2.0 for the first 9 hours of coursework. Some programs
may require a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0."

    Good luck.

    Re: Liberty University

Good eye, Pug! Excellent advice (as is Dave's about Heriott-Watt). I didn't notice this at Liberty's site.

    Best of luck, Daisy.

    Re: Liberty University

I would be very, very surprised, as well as very, very disappointed, if Liberty accepted a Canyon College degree for admission to their graduate programs.

I think that this sums it up.

<<I would be very, very surprised, as well as very, very disappointed, if Liberty accepted a Canyon College degree for admission to their graduate programs.>>

I'm not saying that Liberty will definately accept the BA from Canyon, nor am I suggesting they should, but I do think it is worth a call. Since Liberty, if they were to accept the degree for admission, would place the student on "Probation Status" for the first 9 hours of the program, it will show very quickly if the student is not up to the challenge.

Daisy, you can contact Ms. Jasaphra Falce at [email protected]
or at 800-424-9596. She works in Liberty's Graduate Admissions department and will be able to offer some guidance. Please let us know what you find out.

Thank you for the info, I thought I had read something in that matter at Liberty's website. I will definitely contact them 'first' and see if something can be done.

I have other certifications (not from college/university) so it's not like I will only have that BA from CC, plus I work in the field I want my Master in.

Pug, thank you for the contact info, I will let you know what I find out from them :)

You are all SO great! I truly appreciate all the help I am getting here!
