I'd appreciate some input on Global University. I know they are affiliated with the Assemblies of God, and that they are accredited by DETC. Other than that, I know nothing. From looking at their website, their master's programs look pretty interesting.

How does DETC accrediation compare with TRACS accreditation? I know that neither is on the same level as RA. But of the two, which would you think would be more respectable, and which one would provide the greater utility for a master's degree?

Thanks in advance for your input!

DETC is older and more known but TRACS also accredits brick & mortar schools. Personally, I'd go with TRACS, but much of it depends on what type of degree you are looking for and how you intend to use it.

I've never taken any courses from Global but several schools, including those accredited by the AABC, use study guides and course formats that are designed by Global/ICI. I took a class from Eugene Bible College (The Gospel of John) that I found very easy to follow, well laid out, and quite informative. As it turns out, it was designed by Global/ICI.

    Hope this helps.

I didn't mean to imply that all AABC schools use Gloabal study guides. I just happen to know of a few that do.

I've been looking into them as well. They seem to be a solid school. If you haven't yet requested a cd formatted with their undergrad and grad programs you would find it useful. Both are on one cd.

From what I've gathered their classes are of a good quality and challenging. I would recommend them based on what I've researched thus far. I was considering the Master of Arts in Ministry as an option when my Bachelors is completed.

Good hunting in your endeavors! :)

At one time, they had some absolutely brilliant people on their faculty list from overseas. If you are pentecostal, they could be a reputable and competent supplier of DL for you. I do not know what DL is available from AGTS, but that might be an interesting point of comparison.

Thanks to everyone for your input so far. It seems like everyone has a high opinion of Global U.

Uncle Janko said concerning GU, "If you are pentecostal, they could be a reputable and competent supplier of DL for you." That's the thing -- I'm not pentecostal, so I'm not sure if I should pursue them or not. Most of their courses look pretty good (some VERY good!), but the different perspective theologically could present a problem. Not sure about that...

I figured that opinions might be divided concerning TRACS vs. DETC. I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer here, but I appreciate your perspectives!

    Thanks!

Either way, both TRACS and DETC are DOE recognized and that's all good.

As far as the Pentecostal persuasion, it will depend. Most schools allow for a dissenting opinion if backed properly via Scripture, grammatical, and historical contexts.

It shouldn't present a problem unless you plan on using the degree to teach at a fundamentally differing viewed church/school. Example: I currently attend a Southern Baptist congregation. They wouldn't look as keenly on a Global degree as an Assembly of God would.

However, I find it fascinating to study the differing views. I think it makes me a more well rounded Christian. Besides, one may actually learn some things that may help to understand the Scriptures better. Don't get me wrong. I'm orthodox in the sense that I attest to sola scriptura being the overall truth. Yet within that context there are still so many views that need to be sorted out and discussed from the various angles.

Afterall, as a Christian, our main focus is on the Lord and his will/work. I say let the chips fall where they may. I want to know Christ and not be boxed in by people who are affraid to explore what other brethern have to say on an issue.

I do have to conclude by mentioning that if you have a career or such in mind that is of a denomination that will be disdainful of the particular school, then it may be in your best interest to find another school.

Other good ones are Liberty University and South African Theological Seminary(SATS) Both are highly accredited(RA/GAAP)

    Kevin,

You stated concerning GU, "I do have to conclude by mentioning that if you have a career or such in mind that is of a denomination that will be disdainful of the particular school, then it may be in your best interest to find another school."

I think I could probably get by with having a degree from, say, Luther Rice Seminary even though I'm not Baptist. But Global University even though I'm not Pentecostal may be a bit of a stretch for me. I think your advice in my case is probably wise. Although as you also mention, it is fascinating to study other perspectives.

Right now I'm leaning toward simply taking a few classes at Global -- the ones that I'm particularly interested in. As far as where I'll wind up pursuing my Master's degree, at this point, I have no clue!

    Thanks for your input!
