    Hello,

I was convinced to switch programs from Human Services Ph.D to Psychology at Capella. However, after talking to them today, I was informed that they won't take all my credits from my M.S. in Counseling Psychology. Ironically, they accepted all 48 credit hours towards the Human Services. I was also informed that it would take me much longer and would spend much more money if I go for the Psychology route.

Now, I guess I am more confuse than ever.

    Help!

    JB,

This is a decision you're ultimately going to have to make. I, too, lost some of my external transfer credit when I transfered from the School of Education to the School of Business, and have also extended out my anticipated graduation date a couple of quarters (thus more expensive, as well), but to me the losses are worth it.

Have you spoken with anyone from either School yet, or have you only been dealing with the university admissions people? I found it extremely helpful in making my decision to speak with someone actually in the school. If you haven't done so, I'd highly recommend that before you make a final decision.

    Regards,

    Lost in the Woods

    Hi Adrienne,

Thanks for responding. I guess I am just being extra cautious because I have made quite a few bad moves in regards to selecting my degree / career. Also, part of it, is I probably don't know what to ask or what to look for in either degree.

40K is a lot of money and in regards to time, I can never bring that back...

    Re: Lost in the Woods

    Hi JB,

There's nothing wrong in being extra cautious -- deciding to undertake a Ph.D. is a huge commitment! You might just need some more time to research and reflect on what it is you want from the degree.

I have also made some false starts concerning my doctorate education, and those false starts cost me about $4000 all told. I was searching for the right program on my own, and unfortunately at that time did not know about degreeinfo or other resources such as this. However, I just look on that period as a learning experience, and I'm glad that I kept looking for what I wanted, as Capella is an excellent fit with my goals and needs.

Keep asking questions wherever you can -- here, school specific advisors at Capella, etc. Don't enroll until you are sure, and then once you've made a final decision, you'll probably feel more comfortable with it.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

    Regards,
    Adrienne
