I noticed a story about Ashoka University in the latest issue of 'Buddhadharma'. It just started a few weeks ago and is another of those no-credit, no-degree things. http://www.ashokaedu.net/index.htm What caught my attention was the lineup of individuals who have agreed to teach for them: http://www.ashokaedu.net/teachers.htm They are currently only offering three classes. There are a couple more ready to launch and more than a dozen in the planning stages. http://www.ashokaedu.net/catalog.htm It's certainly not expensive. Robert Thurman's class asks for a voluntary donation of $25. There's no elaborate application process, just sign up. The idea is apparently to pitch this in a non-sectarian manner at a level accessible to beginners. Students are exposed to a number of traditions and approaches. Students who want to pursue things farther are put in touch with those who can help them.
