    Hi,

A few weeks ago, I started a thread asking how my current credits might fit into a degree at Excelsior College. I have just gotten my unofficial review back from Excelsior and now I'm wondering (with COSC only requiring 15 upper-level credits....instead of 30) how the current credits I have might fit into a degree at Charter Oak State College.

    Credits:

    BUS101 (Dynamics of Enterprise) "B" 5 Q.H.
    BSC203 (Understanding Human Behavior) "B" 5 Q.H.
    ITS131 (Introduction to Computer Applications) "A" 5 Q.H.
    ENG103 (Writing in Today's World) "B" 5 Q.H.
    MTH201 (Math With Business Applications) "A" 5 Q.H.
    ENG203 (International Literary Heritage) "B" 5 Q.H.
    ART203 (Artistic Forms of Expression) "A" 5 Q.H.
    BUS244 (Global Economics) "B" 5 Q.H.
BUS247 (Global Business for the New Millennium) "A" 5 Q.H.
    ACG250 (Fundamentals of Accounting) "A" 5 Q.H.
    PSP102 (Professional Business Presentations) "A" 5 Q.H.
    SOC218 (Global Cultural Relations) "A" 5 Q.H.
    MGT256 (Ethics for a Global Economy) "A" 5 Q.H.
    SCI204 (Environmental Science) "A" 5 Q.H.
    BUS245 (Dynamic Business Communications) "A" 5 Q.H.
    MGT257 (Leadership & Management for the Next Mill) "B" 5 Q.H.
    BUS255 (Fundamentals of Business Law) "B" 6 Q.H.
    MKT246 (Principles of Contemporary Marketing) "B" 5 Q.H.
    SPN104 (Latin America in the 21st Century) "A" 5 Q.H.
    CSM231 (Computers in your Future) "A" 5 Q.H.

Degree Completed: Associate of Arts in Business Administration

    Other Credits Attempted and Completed:

    POLS1101 (American Government) "D" 3 S.H.
    EDUC2101 (Introduction to Education) "A" 2 S.H.

    Scheduled CLEP's for this month:

    Human Growth and Development
    English Composition with Essay

(Depending on how much the "D" in American Government hurts my GPA....I may leave those credits out).

The admissions advisor I talked to informed me that I would likely need a different Math....meaning the current Math I have taken will be considered an elective. She also said that "Writing In Today's World" probably wouldn't fill the requirement for writing and would also likely be an elective.

I was then told that an advisor would review it with the official review and would make suggestions on the quickest way to complete my degree...as well as the concentration. Without even seeing the credits....and only hearing me describe them, she told me Business or Individualized Studies would be the likely route they would inform me of. With Individualized Studies, what all could I include as part of the concentration to make my route quickest?

I would suggest taking the American Government CLEP. If you read a newspaper fairly often, it won't be that difficult.

COSC will require 27 credits beyond basic, so your statement of only 15 UL required is somewhat optimistic. I am enrolled and in the final 18 hours of my degree. I will tell you that COSC is very particular as to the order of classes/exams taken and very tough on duplicate credits (I didn't get credit for DANTES intro to Business because I took it after Princ of Mgmt. I also didn't get credit for an accounting course due to the 6 hours of credit I claimed on CLEP Princ of Acctg)

So for your credits, I would think that there may be some jeopardy on your Human Behavior and CLEP Human Growth and Development. I would also be leery of the two computer classes as to whether they would accept both. YOu should also check out the general ed requirements and try and figure out how many of these that you have. The last thing to calculate is whether you go for BS or BA. The liberal arts requirements are 60 and 90 hours respectively. All of this is available on COSC's web site. Easily downloaded PDF files of handbook, degree requirements and concentration worksheets. Go through them and you should be able to help your self figure out very closely as to the hours required. I came in within 10 hours of what the review came back as.

Last thought: I went with COSC as I was very weak in Math (one college level math required vs. stats and trig at TESC and Exc) The exceptional Cust Service I recieved from COSC, The fact that I could score at the 40% GRE and get 18 credit hours (vs scaled score at EXC), and just plain old Charter Oak State College sounds much more like a real school than Excelsior.

I think the 15 hours that you are refering to is in your concentration. There is a total of 30 required.

    Hi Cade:

The CLEP English Comp with essay will fulfill all of COSC's English requirements. As for math just sign up for their contemporary math course (it's inexpensive) and be done with it.

I think I read somewhere that the vast majority of COSC students opt for the individualized studies degree. It really lets you pull together diverse learning experiences and build them into a comprehensive degree plan. For a concentration a minimum of 36 credits is required with at least 27 above the basic level
and a minimum of 15 at the upper level. I did my concentration under a social science umbrella using CJ, Sociology and psychology courses. If you can show COSC how your courses fit together then you've got yourself a concentration!
