    Hello,

In my ongoing quest for a solid DL MBA I have narrowed my choices to the following four schools. I'm looking for opinions on the quality and utility of MBA's from the following schools:

    City University
    Bellevue University
    Liberty University
    Nova Southeastern University

I'd be interested to hear about the quality of education? Which would carry the most utility after graduation? Any other pros & cons on each school.

Specific questions on Liberty University....Am I correct in my understanding that there is a one week residency for their MBA? How are degree's from religious schools looked at in the corporate world? They were on probation several years ago for financial reasons. Are there any lasting concerns with their financial status or has this been totally resolved?

My criteria for narrowing my list to these schools are:

    1. Regional Accreditation
    2. Physical Campus to go along with the DL program
    3. No GMAT required
    4. Quality of Education
    5. Cost

I'm currently in the military and will be retiring in a couple years and want a degree that I'll be able to find employment with in the Pacific Northwest.

I'd appreciate any insight that can be provided.

My MBA is from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, but I am a life-long resident of the Seattle area. Noting that you are planning to retire to the Pac NW after you leave the military (are you Army, Navy or Air Force?), I suggest a school that has a prominent Pacific Northwest presence. And in your list, that school would be City University. City University has a number of branch campuses in the Pac NW, and they are extremely popular with working adults and the military in this area. City University is well-regarded, familiar and has a large alumni population in the area.

I would be concerned that the other three universities on your list are relative unknowns in the Pac NW.

    Michael,

Thanks for the input. City University being located in the Pacific Northwest is the reason that it is on the top of my list. I'm Active Duty Navy and will be retiring in 2006 so I'm under the gun to finish my Undergrad Degree and get a good start on my MBA.

Have you heard anything about the quality of the City University curriculum? I do want an MBA that will be challenging and relevant to the business world. I can't find much "first hand" experience with City University.

    Thanks,

I tend to agree that you should go with the school that is going to be the most well known in the area in which you intend to reside. Here on the East Coast/Mid Atlantic, I have never heard of City University. That being said, if you live in California you probably never heard of Liberty University. Here in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area LU is very well known.

Regarding how degrees from religious schools are viewed: I personally think if they are RA (and not strictly seminaries) they are viewed as being equal, maybe even superior to their secular counterparts. I think there is a general feeling, whether it be right or wrong, that the standards of a religious/private school are higher than that of a public or secular school. This notion is ingrained in us from the time we are little.

Ray, through the years, I have heard pretty good things about the quality of instruction and curriculum at City University. Probably about the only negative thing I have heard consistently, is that some people consider them expensive per credit hour. City University is very popular with the military, and the school works well with them.

I have been told by my contacts in the academic community that it was the success of City University in the Pac NW that led the University of Phoenix and DeVry to also set up shop in this area. The Pac NW seems to embrace the concept of distance learning or being a working adult and going to school.

My wife was active duty Navy, putting in her 20 years and retiring as a HMC (SW) in 2000. Her duty station for the last five years was Naval Hospital Bremerton. She earned her BSc from Southern Illionois while on active duty, and after retirement, earned her MHA from Chapman. She now works as a clinic manager for a large healthcare organization, which saw her Navy healthcare administrative experience and her MHA as being very valuable.

    Thanks Michael and Pug,

Interested in hearing from some that have participated in any of these programs. I'd really like to hear about the format of Nova's online MBA. Course load, testing format, cost, etc. I searched the forum and can't find anyone doing the Nova online MBA. Their website is lacking in basic information.
