I would like to start working as an adjunct when I complete my MS. I do plan to go for a PhD in Business and was thinking about earning 18 credits in Humanities or English so I could teach at a CC. Here is the question- Which route would give me a greater RIO? To teach online business and technology programs I would have an MS combined with being enrolled in a PhD program. To teach online or on campus at a CC, I will have an MS with 18 credits in English or Humanaities. I would NOT be able to teach at a campus unless I did it on the weekend because I travel so much right now. I would guess there is a lot more opportunity to teach online business and tech classes than to teach online English or Humanities. By the way, I do enjoy English and Humanities so it would not kill me to earn 18 credits in either. A PhD would help in my non-academic career. Feedback please.
Randell, Take a look at teaching English as a foreign (second) language. Plenty of market. But, teaching English as a foreign language requires some special classes. I actually looked at a job in China as something interesting. Use the ever reliable monster.com to do a search for specific requirements. Still plenty of business class opportunities Good Luck.... By the way how many papers left now?
Being that you are in Florida, the best route would be through Miami. Varig Airlines operates a daliy flight to Rio that departs at 8:30PM and arrives in Rio the following morning at 6:20AM. Therefore, it is probably the route that would give you the most Rio.
Re: Re: And another adjunct question- Is he a banker? Varig used to be the bankers' airline as we had no extradition treaty with Brazil.
The Business/tech approach would certainly give you a better short-term return (until the PhD is done). You could probably start working tomorrow for ITT Tech (if you want to). Part of the ROI is, of course, your time, so you'd probably also want to look for institutions whose objectives and modules are already developed and you facilitate the learning - this is a good way to start the teaching process until you become practiced. Jones also uses this model. Teaching online - with a handbook or without - does take a LOT of time to do well. Candice
