I would like to sit for some Cleps cold. What exams, in your opinion, should I try to pass with out study?

That really depends on where your talents lie. I'm mathematically retarded, so I never attempted any math exam, study or not.

    The exams I took with no study;

CLEP - Freshman College Comp w/Essay
    CLEP - Humanities
CLEP - Analyzing & Interpreting Literature
    CLEP - American Government
    CLEP - US History I
    CLEP - US History II
DANTES - Intro to Law Enforcement
DANTES - Intro to Criminal Justice
DANTES - Here's to Your Health
DANTES - Intro to World Religions
DANTES - History of the Vietnam War (failed)

If you've taken high school algebra 2, you should be able to pass the college algebra clep without any study (or with 30 minutes review). And, if you're knowledgeable about computers it shouldn't be to hard to pass the information systems and computer applications clep test without studying. I don't have experience with the Humanities or Literature Analyzing test (I forget the exact name), but I've heard these are fairly common knowledge tests and can be taken without study.

There are several CLEPs that you could probably pass without study just depdening on your previous knowledge. In addition, there are several pretty easy ones that you could take with no previous knowledge and just an hour or two of study. Included in these are Management, Marketing, and the Econ tests.

I did the CLEP Generals in Soc Sci, Math, Hummanities, English with no problem and easy passing.

I did the subjects in Freshman Comp and Analysis of Lit with absolutely no prep and an easy high pass.

Some of the others I've done were a bit more challenging but I've not found any of them really taxing.

If you've had any European history education, either independent study/research or high school level classes, you could probably get by in the Western Civilization I & II Exams.

Same with Intro Business Law, Principles of Management, and Principles of Marketing.

Personally, I wouldn't take any exam completely cold - a few nights of study will almost guarantee that you'll pass, and not waste $50-$75 on the exam.

For sure, I gambled by taking so many tests without studying. I was certain that I'd pass some of the tests, pretty sure about most of the others, and very uncertain about a couple.

I failed the Vietnam War test because I thought I was well-prepared, but it turned out that the majority of the test was about the French occupation.

I was loaded with knowledge about the US involvement in Vietnam, but DANTES threw me a curve when I was expecting the fastball. Live and learn.

    I agree.
I took 15 test in 45 days. I would take a test and just ask another. Some days I took three exams between 9am and noon. I wsa in the Army Reserves and the exam were free so it really did not matter if I failed them.

There are two potential exceptions to the idea "it doesn't matter":

    1) Some schools will not allow credit for a repeat -- this could mean repeating the CLEP or repeating the subject as a departmental exam won't be allowed. Some schools might consider the CLEP a "first attempt" and then if you take the class it is the "repeated for credit" -- the problem there is that many limit final grade to repeating a failed course to a C.

    2) Many schools will consider those CLEP scores when evaluating you. They won't apply the unearned credit but someone sees those fails and your academic reputation is effected by them.

    :)

Are you sure? Shouldn't the College Alegebra CLEP contain questions that are beyond the scope of algebra
    2?

If so, I'll review algebra 2 (high-school level intermediate algebra) and go take the College Algebra exam.

    Greetings,

College Algebra CLEP is alright. I took Advanced Algebra II in sophomore of high school in 1999. What I did, I just reviewed 60 minutes by using Forgotton Algebra textbook. This book doesn't cover all the topics in the exam, but at least I passed with 56. The problem for me that I forgot some of the formulas; which took time for me to solve the problems. And left with many questions, I meant ran out of time.

So, the main point that you need to know all the Algebra formulas; which helps you better during the examination.

That's my opinion on College Algebra CLEP.
