    Good morning,

I've been reading the testing odyssey posted by unixman as well as a few other testing journals from others, and I was motivated to get off my rear-end and start my own testing program.

I took CLEP American Government last Wednesday, and yesterday, i took CLEP English Composition with Essay. I knew I would not get the grade for the essay portion right away because it must be sent off to those who grade it, but I thought I might get the results of the first half (the multiple choice portion). After I completed the exam, the proctor told me that I would not get any of the results and that the entire exam would be sent to the school I listed as the recipient for grading.

The problem with the exam being sent to TESC is that I've applied and been accepted to TESC, but I have not yet enrolled. I've been waiting for financial aid to come through, and rather than wasting time, started testing with CLEP (and soon to be DANTES). Do the exams truly get sent to the school I listed as a recipient? If so, will TESC grade them despite my not being enrolled?

To take a tangent, assuming I passed English Comp w/ Essay, here is where I sit on the road to my A.S. - Accounting --
    3CR - CLEP American Government
6CR - CLEP English Composition with Essay
21CR - Transfer from prior schooling 7 years ago

On the "to do" list --
3CR - CLEP Principles of Microeconomics
3CR - CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics
3CR - DANTES Introduction to Business
3CR - CLEP Introductory Business Law
6CR - CLEP Principles of Accounting (edit: originally had listed as 3CR)
3CR - DANTES Principles of Financial Accounting
(Hopefully by this point, TESC will have processed my financial aid and I'll be enrolled. I need to talk with an advisor to plan out the remaining credits.)

I've been waiting for TESC to come up with financial aid (or even a "you are not eligible" letter) since mid-February. I called last week and was told I should receive my award letter in 2-3 weeks. If I have not received the letter in the mentioned time this time, I'll be getting in touch with COSC. This would present even more of a difficulty if TESC truly are the ones who grade the exam (or do not grade it due to not being enrolled).

    Emily,

I am not the authority. However, a few months back I had the same question. The person I spoke with at COSC stated they did not grade the CLEP English Comp Essays. The scores come from CLEP. Not sure if this is correct. Their statement does seem to be consistent with what the college board web site says. In part...

"The essay is scored at central locations by college faculty who teach writing courses. Each essay is read and assigned a rating by two scorers; the sum of the two ratings is weighted and then combined with the candidate's multiple-choice score. The resulting combined score is reported as a scaled score between 20 and 80. Separate scores are not reported for the multiple-choice and essay sections."

Great, thank you! I had read that portion on the CLEP website before taking the exam, which is what had me so thoroughly confused when the proctor mentioned TESC would grade the essay portion of the exam and forward me my results for the entire CLEP.

I will be much better off if CLEP-selected scorers grade it, especially if TESC doesn't come through with the financial aid and I do end up applying to COSC instead.

Thank you very much for the quick response.

--3CR - DANTES Principles of Financial Accounting

I believe the CLEP exam gives you 3 credits for Managerial Accounting and 3 credits for Financial Accounting.

So the DANTES exam would be a duplication of credit and you won't get any credit for it.

I was not certain if the CLEP covered the Intermediate Accounting I and Intermediate Accounting II, or if it covered the Financial and Managerial Accounting requirements. Thank you for pointing that out - I will edit my list.

I hope to be enrolled in TESC so I can verify with an advisor before getting to the end of the testing regimen listed above. If I am not, I will take your advice and hold off on the DANTES exam to avoid overlap. Thank you!

    Hi Emily,

This is the official outline of the CLEP accounting
    http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/ex_pa.html

I have the Official CLEP study guide at home and the accounting exam looks to be more theory than practice.

What I mean is there were no sample questions that said 'here are 20 transactions, now show and draw journal entries for them.'

I have heard that the CLEP Into to Management and the DANTES Intro to Supervision are both pretty simple.

    Go to this site,

    http://www.getcollegecredit.com/materials.htm

and scroll down for the official descriptions and SAMPLE question of DANTES exams

    good luck
