i have a question concering the scoring of cleps.
i am preparing for analyzing lit and am a bit concerned about finishing all of the questions in time. it takes me some time soak in all of the reading that i am doing. if i get close to the end of the exam and run out of time should i make total blind guesses or just leave them blank? also, i will use this info for further reference when taking cleps. do wrong answers and blank ones count against you the same?

i have heard conflicting ideas on this. it would be nice to know the real answer.

    thanks

If I recall correctly some of the discussions of this, the answer depends on whether the test is paper-based or computer-based. Different scoring methods, and so, different answering stategies.

If you can't get a complete answer here then try www.degreeforum.com .

According to What Your CLEP Score Means, published by The College Board:

"Your score report shows the total scaled score for each examination you took. Total scaled scores fall between 20 and 80 and are closely related to the number of questions answered correctly. We call the number of questions answered correctly your raw score. Raw scores from computer-based CLEP exams are calculated without a penalty for incorrect guessing. Your raw score increases by one point for each question answered correctly and nothing is gained or lost when a question is not answered or is answered incorrectly. "

FWIW, I took this exam in February, finished with time to spare, and scored a 72 (95th percentile).

    Good luck,

This was the first test I took. I found I needed the whole 90 minutes. The reading is tedious (and that's the kindest way I can put it). I think I finished in 86 minutes and scored a 66. The test is very doable but tortuous, I can't believe people enjoy reading this kind of writing. I think you'll do fine. Good luck.

LOL. I believe that this was also the first test I took. It was also one of the few tests (accounting and English were the others) that I thought I might run out of time (I believe I had 5 or 10 minutes to spare for each one.)
The reading is tedious, the test is doable, and I also didn't enjoy the reading sections. :D
In short, I agree completely with Seekinghelp.

If you have to guess, I would wait until you only have one or two minutes left. Then I would guess the same letter for all answers. I doubt you will need to do this though.
