There is a very interesting article in Sunday's New York Times. The Digital Doctorate By TODD OPPENHEIMER Published: April 25, 2004 http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/25/edlife/EDPHDET.html
Yes, very interesting indeed, particularly this passage: "One employer told a graduate of Union Institute and University -- another member of the distance-learning family -- that he would be better off dropping mention of his alma mater from his curriculum vitae." Wonder who that grad was?
No one knows, but it was repeated from an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education. I'm sure the person had the same opinion about all DL doctoral degrees.
NY Times Thanks mathguy - interesting article. And thanks me again for the password. I liked Russell from NCSUs comment about a distance doctorate: ''It's just tougher,'' he says. ''It's not as pleasant. It requires much more self-motivation.''
<<Maybe you can give us your user name and password so we can access this article>> Registration is free with the NYTs as it is with Washington Post and LA Times and many other online editions of papers (London Telegraph and Guardian, but London Times charges). Great deals.
