    Hello Folks,

Is anyone familiar with the Univeristy of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) or University of Maryland University College's online MBA programs? I've done some research and the main difference I found was with their professional accreditation. UCCS has the "Gold Star" stamp of approval from the AASCB and UMUC has the "Bronze Star" from the IACBE.

In my current situation, the accreditation really doesn't apply because my employer would care less about it. I ruled out the "Convenience" factor out of my decision matrix because both are online. I received my undergraduate degree through UMUC and I heard getting a Masters degree from another institution will show diversity in learning. Is this true in the professional arena or in academia?

I do like UMUC's dual Masters degree plan. An MBA and an MS-Ecommerce would be ideal...Also, the cohort structure of UMUC is a big plus, especially with my work schedule. Cost also doesn't matter, as my employer along with my G.I. Bill will cover all expenses.

Anyway, any thoughts on this very fortunate delima I'm in? Did I miss any facts to consider? Thanks in advance...

I think that when it comes to the two programs, you need to decide which one is going to work more closely with your particular situation. I have been told by others, that it does look good, when you do get your degrees from different schools. It sort of validates the fact that based upon two different schools, that you are at the level or meet the standards, if that makes sense. However, I also think that what is most important is for you to be comfortable with the school that is going to be best for your situation. You also need to think about what your plans are for the future, i.e. do you want to be promoted from within, or do you want to consider going with a different company, or are you comfortable with what you are doing now? These are the questions that you need to be asking yourself. In addition, how secure is my employment, or the industry that I am presently involved with? There are times that you can give a person a choice and say this is better then that, and etc. However, in the majority of cases, it is best for the individual person to make that decision. Perhaps, if you were a little more specific as to what your wanting from the degree, then this might help us to give you some more thought. Lastly, is it so important that you need to start right into this asap, or are there other schools that you have not considered? This is why talking with people in your industry would be helpful, and to use networking. Good luck, and if you want more information from me, those previous questions would be very helpful. But, please do not consider me an expert, just here to give some helpful ideas and opinions.

Is this a diploma mill ?

I really have to say that to ask people whether or not a school that is regionally accredited is a diploma mill is really pushing it. I think this is where this does a disservice to people who are looking for a legitimate and accredited degree from a college. Why do you allow people to do this? Sure, you may think less of a certain school, but if it is regionally or nationally accredited (recognized by the United States Department of Education) then I think that you are doing something that is disrespectful and a disservice in my opinion. There are other better things to do, like to try and help people to stay away from all unaccredited schools! Just my thoughts.

You are absolutely correct with your opinon on the poll I posted. Therefore, I will have it removed!

FYI...I work in a govt. job and will retire from it in about 7 years. I want the MBA for after I retire from the govt. job. Also, what do you think about UMUC and UCCS (i.e. thier accreditation)?

The University of Maryland University College, a regionally accredited university with branch campuses on many American military bases throughout the world, is not even remotely a diploma mill.

Why post that poll? Who voted "yes" and why?

Relax airtorn...If you read my previous post, I said it was unecessary to post the poll. Perhaps I should've worded the poll differently. For example, is UMUC's MBA program the more convient way, because of their cohort structure and experience with govt. workers, to earn an MBA? Does that sound better? I know it's no comparison to the "Diploma Mill" question...
