    Hello.

I just wanted to post a reference about GVTC. or Georgia Virtual Technical College.

I could not find any references to GVTC using the search engine here.

Perhaps my posting this link could help someone, especially Georgia residents.

GVTC is not a real college awarding degrees. Basically, all of the technical colleges in Georgia have teamed up to offer online courses, and certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees, which can be earned online.

Georgia residents can use the HOPE grant to take the classes for free.

    Good day to all.

I graduated from Okefenokee Tech and took several courses via GVTC. I enjoyed the experience.

My only comments would be the quality varied widely from class to class and largely depended on the professor. I had a couple of instances where tests were multiple choice and would refer to a figure, and the image would not load. In those cases you had to complete the test and guess at what you were supposed to be looking at, then contact your professor or tech support.

The only other drawback is that you have to pay an application fee to each of the individual tech schools when you take a class from them. It's only $15 but if you skip around as much as I did to complete my degree it can add up.

Other than that I enjoyed and highly recommend GVTC courses.

    Jason...

My wife had a Professor Strickland at Gainesville College for Lit or Comp, I think. Any relation?

Not that I am aware of, though there are so many Stricklands in Georgia that sometimes we're related distantly and aren't aware of it.

I notice you're in the BGS program at Fort Hayes, how are you enjoying that? I have considered fort hase for an MLS.

Hello. Since Jason mentioned a few things about GVTC, I thought that I would add my brother's experience with GVTC.

My brother lives in Athens, Georgia, and enrolled through GVTC, he had to apply with Valdosta State. He was led to believe that all the coursework would be online.

However, after the class started, he was informed that he would have to meet with the instructor, face to face, 3 times during the quarter, to demonstrate knowledge gained from the lessons.

    Tests were to be online.

My brother decided to drop the course instead of driving several hours to Valdosta.

For anyone considering this method, perhaps check for online courses administered by a technical college close by your residence.

    Jason...

I like Fort Hays State...many of the Virtual College courses have a video component, which breaks up the monotony of some of the heavy reading, but the material in the BGS program is not terribly difficult. All my course-work with FHSU will be Liberal Arts as I'm primarily interested in Literature. Thus far, there has not been any required discussion group postings (had alot of that at Pikes Peak and CCCOnline) and the work varies with the instructor. Some instructors are test and quiz "heavy" while others are paper "heavy". Grad work is stated as needing to be of greater volume and higher quality but many of the Virtual College courses are available for either grad or undergrad credit. Browse the syllabus site and you will get an idea of what to expect if you go with FHSU:
