    Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if I can find a school that has an online or distance learning music associates or bachelors.

I already have quite a lot as far as background is concerned but am curious if I could convert my knwledge into a degree or diploma or even a certificate at some point in time.

Would really appreciate some pointers... Even if it be for music theory alone (since I have sufficient production experience), I'm ok with that. But tuition is a definite issue since I do not have much money to spare...

  2. Although not specifically in Music, have you looked at COSC to see if you could assemble a general studies degree program with a concentration in music? You could then potentially complete most if not all of the requirements via portfolio assessment. Cost would be reasonable.

    Cheers,
    Mark

You could try looking through the offerings at the University of New England (the one in Australia), the University of Saskatchewan and the University of South Africa. If you are a Ms. Null (as opposed to Mr. Null) then you could also look at Judson College (the one in Alabama) and Mary Baldwin College.

Maybe this is too obvious, but Canada's Royal Conservatory of Music has been doing DL for more than a century. You could do an Associateship (ARCT) in music theory entirely on your own, for the price of a few exams and textbooks. Wouldn't be easy, though, and they do not accept any transfer credits. You'd probably have to find a tutor, also.

Peter, who put himself as an adult through the ARCT not once, but twice (piano performance and piano pedagogy)

I think Judson accepts males in the distance learning program. I may be wrong --- boy would that be a shocker!

My wife would be interested in this, but I couldn't find any online programs...where is it on their website?

    Thanks.

    More on Canada's Royal Conservatory

The Royal Conservatory of Music is not involved in online learning. Their brand of distance education is more old-fashioned. You study on your own, or find yourself a tutor, or do some work by correspondence, and then twice a year the RCM holds exams around Canada. If you don't live in Canada, you could fly to one of the exam centers when you feel ready to take a test.
There's now an American partner -- Royal American Conservatory Examinations -- offering the same curriculum and testing south of the Cdn. border.
