Which is a better school and more world renowned? If you had a chance to get a Masters from BU and NYU which school would you chose and why?
If I may be so bold as to assume I know what nosborne means . . . In the world of graduate degree programs, a degree is measured more on the strength of the particular academic department rather than the university as a whole. A particular school may be somewhat weak overall but, perhaps because of the presence of several specific faculty members, have an outstanding reputation in a specific discipline. In regards to your question of BU v. NYU, if I were seeking a Masters degree in Philosophy then I would choose NYU (The last time I checked the Philosophical Gourmet report they were listed in the top ten nationally). Switching from one department to another can drop (or raise) the value of a degree substantially. Jack
Hello, I am thinking about getting an MS in Management and Systems from NYU or MS in Project Management from BU.
I don't know about the BU Masters in Project Management but Western Carolina University has one that is also AACSB accredited and consists of six, six semester hour classes. Additionally if you check the PMI website they hold accreditation from PMI and the only one's listed to have this additional accreditation. http://cess.wcu.edu/pmonline/index.html While not as prestigious as the other's mentioned it certainly presents good credentials. Also, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville will give you 6 semester hours of credit towards their Masters in PM if you have a PMP Certification. Kevin
In general, NYU is superior. It's better funded and not so overshadowed as BU. NYU is top ten in Art History (if not still #1), for example, as is the Stern School of Business. Although your chosen field is either comp sci or business, I'd choose NYU. Whether or not deserved, ceteris peribus, you'll enjoy a superior halo effect after grad school. But BU is definitely high quality - just not pushing at the Ivy league envelope in quality. What would scotch NYU? If you have better connections and expect better postgrad job opps through BU! And on that, only you and your contacts can decide. --Orson
The BU degree is actually a M.S. in Management with a concentration in Project Management. It's offered through BU's Metropolitan College, which is their term for Continuing Education.
I know what you mean. The BU website is kind of misleading because when you read through it looks like you will receive a Masters of Science in Management with a concentration in Project Management. However after speaking on the phone with a rep from this program I learned that the diploma will say "Master of Science in Project Management".
NYU is also top 10 in math, especially applied math (Courant Institute). This probably carries over to computer science as well.
I'm not sure that even BU knows what it's doing. Their websites list both a "Master of Criminal Justice" and a "Master of Science in Criminal Justice". When I called awhile ago and asked what the specific degree title was, I received two different answers about a week apart.
