I think I like this. Unfortunately the computer I'm using at an Internet cafe does not allow for pdf files. I would like to look at the other schools that utilize the Academic Profile test.

National Standardized Tests for APUS Graduates

Effective April 1, APUS will introduce a crucial component of the American Public University System’s efforts to measure student achievement. We will begin testing our graduates using nationally sponsored tests through Educational Testing Service (ETS). There is a general education achievement exam and, for some specific disciplines, a major field test. The tests are administered as part of the graduation process, although the results are not calculated in the student’s grade point average or considered part of the student’s academic performance.

The general achievement exam is called the Academic Profile test and it will be taken by all associate’s and bachelor’s degree graduates, regardless of major.

The specific discipline exam is called the Major Field Test and it will be taken by:

Undergraduate students in the Business Administration, Criminal Justice, History, English, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology programs.

Graduate Students in the Master of Business (MBA) program.

The test results are used to inform the University System and the student of the student’s performance in a given subject area compared to their peers from over 600 colleges and universities from around the country. Students performing in the top 10, 20, or 30 percent will have a bona fide credential for resumes, prospective graduate school interviews, and/or employment personnel file. They can state that their score was in the top percentage of all students from across the country in a given subject area. The results will also help students make decisions about further educational pursuits. They will know the academic areas where they have strengths, as well as those key areas in which they might want to work in future graduate study or independent research.

As an institution, we want to prove to the world that our graduates can compete, achieve, and succeed in whatever aspirations they choose. These national tests are one way to measure how our students perform. They will also show us that we may have some areas of our curriculum where we can improve.

Graduating students are the living, breathing outcome of the University System’s academic program. To them we say - Make Us Proud! You will be competing with graduates from institutions around the country. As working adult graduates, you have several advantages compared to other students who may not have been tested as hard as you have in both school and life. We are depending on you to represent all of us to the best of your ability.
