I am looking at the Master of liberal Studies with a Crimnal Justice concentration at Fort Hays State University. I need all the information you guys can provide me about this program. I am trying to get answers for the following questions.

    1. How long would it take to complete?
    2. How difficult could it be versus a BS.?

    1. That totally depends on your courseload. Most 30-36 semester hour Master's degrees can be completed in one academic year if you really want to work at it.

    2. I'm not sure how to respond to that. Comparing a graduate program to a B.S. program is like, to borrow a phrase, comparing apples to moonrocks. You won't be admitted to the Fort Hays MLS program without a legitimately accredited Bachelor's degree, so I don't know where that question is coming from.

    Hi Bruce

I do have an NCA accredited BS degree in Aviation Management.
What I am trying to find out is what I am getting myself into before jumping into the master program. In other words how much harder are the classes for a master versus the bachelor degree? That is all I had in mind.

    Hi Carlos,

Master's CJ classes are MUCH harder than Bachelor's classes.

Master's CJ classes are MUCH harder than Bachelor's classes.

    Do you get the point?

    Hi Bruce

I am sorry if I offended you in anyway, that was the last thing in my mind. I always had the highest regards for you from reading your posts and this is why I wanted your opinion. I do get your point now; the “Master's CJ classes are MUCH harder than Bachelor's classes”. I do hope you have a better day tomorrow buddy.

    Thanks for all your help

    Carlos,
Ask the the instructors what kind of course load they expect.
I sit in classes that also contain mostly undergrads, the only exception is that they hand out two syllabi, one with less a workload for undergrads and of course one with more demands for grad students. Of course you will be required to complete a thesis.....but that comes later and really not much of a hurdle if you have climbed that far!
    Best,
    Gavin

    Carlos,

Bruce is a cop, which may make him a little crusty, sort of like an "old school Army sergeant." :D

    FHSU courses

I'm a BGS student at FHSU. The syllabi for the courses sometimes lists the "volume" of work required for a course. At FHSU there are Virtual College courses that are listed at the 600 level for undergrad and grad credit with the grad students expected to do much more work.

"Students taking the course for GRADUATE credit are expected to produce a greater quantity and quality of work." This is a quote from one of the courses (Liberal Arts not Justice studies) that can be undergrad or grad credit.

    http://gold.fhsu.edu/syllabus/ syllabus search page

NOTE:The change to the 600 numbering system is new and not all syllabi are updated. Browsing syllabi might turn up numbers like 501/701 for courses that can be either undergrad or grad.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

Not at all, and sorry if I got a bit snippy. I was listening to talk radio when I typed that, and was aggravated with some of the callers. I didn't mean to take it out on you, unless you were one of the callers. :D

No problem Bruce, we are all emotional human beings and every so often we have to vent our frustrations. May I ask what the radio program was about?

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that it was sports radio, and the usual doom & gloom Red Sox fans were nitpicking on the smallest things about the team's performance so far.

Sorry to say, the gloom & doom people are usually correct about the Red Sox. :D
