"Univesity" - deliberate spelling error?

    i dont understand that. why would anyone claim those domains? i understand that they'll get some hits, but what value do the hits have if the browser leaves as soon as they realize there is a misspelling in the url?

    Lots of people bought such misspelled domains, before regulations were passed againts cyber-squatting. For example, http://www.altavitsa.com used to be an ad unconnected with AltaVista. (You can still view it with the WayBack machine: http://web.archive.org/web/19990127095553/209.19.112.110/7) Later, through cybersquatting regulations, ownership of the Website was given to AltaVista.

    Cyber-squatters still buy up just-expired Websites to display ads. A company I used to work for (a biotech) was sold and let its Website expire. The Website now displays an ad for a completely unrelated "debt consolidation" service.
