The HOU is the 19th Greek State University but the only one that provides distance education in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels via the development and utilization of appropriate learning material and methods of teaching. Promoting scientific research as well as developing technology and methodology in distance learning fall within the scope of HOU’s objectives. Like all other state universities in Greece, it is a LPPL (Legal Person of Public Law) completely independent and autonomous. Its operation is determined by Act 2552/97 (as amended by Article 14 of Act 2817/2000 and as amended further by Article 3 of Act 3027/2002)

I don't know much about this school but I have some similar case. When I graduate master degree I use to find PhD program to attend and Greek university is a good choice because of no tuition fee. I use to discuss with faculty at Technical Univercity of Crete if I conduct research in english and the the answer is yes, I can conduct research in english and writen dissertation in english too.
If you see the qualification of faculty you will see that almost all of them graduate from US or UK. Use English textbook and also exam in english too.

    Hi zvavda,

Yeah, the Dutch Open University is definitely an option for me. However, I am not sure they have doctoral programs in Engineering, my area of interest.

    Thanks a lot

    Hi JLV

If your doctoral programs in Engineering is your area of interest and you don't mind to travel, almost every Technikon in south africa have DTech degree that you can take in a part time(3 year) basis. Its a very pratical degree that you can use your present job to write a DTech thesis.

    Good luck
