It is great to have such a forum and a good quality of informed members who rarely get personal !

That said, I would like to know if a Canadian living in Canada can write in Canada the various CLEP, ACT, and similar exams to get some credits towards an American Associate or a Baccalaureate degree .

To be more specific, these credits would be applied to a Business or Management degree.

    Thanks for all informed answers.

depends what and where you want to apply the exam credits for. If you are planning to apply to a Canadian degree you are out of luck. I have contacted a bunch of colleges/universities here and they dont accept CLEP, DANTES and other exams for credits. For this reason I am going with taking B&M/DL courses to complete most of the requirements and trying to skip these exams altogether.

    GOOD QUESTION, vnazaire...

It's odd that no one has stepped forward to answer this query authoritatively.

(Am I wrong? I thought Lawrie Miller was Canadian...)

On a yahoo.com search, "clep.org testing canada" turned up only 20 pages - most in the US.

Looking pre-computer-based CLEP (a 1998 CLEP testing guide), showed only one site in Canada - Northwest Baptist College, Langley."

An online search of CLEP sites, "International"
    http://apps.collegeboard.com/servlet/cbsearch_clep/searchCLEPServlet?searchCategory=other&searchdb=&DBACTION=SEARCH_TC
    turned up only one:

    "7495
    Director, Operations
    University of Phoenix -- ULC 4401 Still Creek Drive Suite 200 Vancouver, _ BC _ V5C 6G9
    "604-205-6999
    www.phoenix.edu"
But if there are other Univ of
Phoenix locales in Canada, I'd try there,
    too.

However, my earlier Yahoo search turns
up Talpiot College in Toronto that offers all the above exams for testing and some
    degree of credit!
    http://www.talpiot.ca/additionaltests.html
Call to make sure an outside student can
    test there!

Therefore, I wonder if further web searching might yield the most useful
    results for you?

PS Do be apprised that the ACT exams are no more (am I right people)...
    Aren't Excelsior's exams the inheritors?

ofcourse the exams can be applied towards an American degree. The reason I mentioned was that after checking with various colleges/universities here and the info I receive I have concluded that if the degree contains a lot of exams (CLEP etc) and if he intends to use that degree for further education in Canada he would have tough time. The exams would not satisfy the requirements for further degree here in Canada and he may end up taking courses again. just my .02

    CLEP EXAMS in CANADA

Thank you all, especially Mark Israel and Orson!

Yes, I want an AMERICAN degree not a Canadian one.

I contacted Talpiot College by e-mail and I am waiting for an answer to be communicated to you here , Orson.

Langley in B.C. to write CLEP tests is very far from Eastern Canada ( Toronto or Montreal), about 4 hours plane ride.

I find it strange that CLEP does not keep a test center in Toronto( 5 million population ) or Montreal ( 2 million population).

Would a U.S. undergraduate degree earned partly through CLEPs hobble you in some later pursuit of a Canadian graduate degree?

SUNY-Plattsburgh is an open CLEP center and is just an hour South of Montreal.

the Prometric site lists this in Montrealas the only test location for ECEs:

    PTC 5259
    MONTREAL, _QC __H3B 1X9 __Map
    Phone: (514)876-8818 __Site Code: 5259
    _
800 RENE LEVESQUE BLVD. WEST SUITE 1530
    https://www.2test.com/tcl/Centers.jsp?pts=1081809805145

That leaves only a DANTES location to find. You objectivs appears eminenty doable.

    Good luck, vnazaire!

    Sorry for the spelling.

It is possible that the private St Lawrence University (Canton, NY) could help you with Dantes exams.

Then there's also SUNY (college?) at Potsdam...
Consult online listings, then call (to get absolutely up to date info.)

If you call an unfamiliar institution in the US, the magic words are "testing center" or "can you give me the office of testing?" Most American institutions have them, even 2-year community colleges.

Their day-to-day work often involves determining whether or not new students are ready for course work that requires math or essay writing, or whether remedial instruction is called for first.

Therefore a Clep or Dantes inquiry is often met with receptiveness because it's non-routine (or at least a break from routine)!

CLEP and similar exams to write in Canada

    Hi,
As promised, I did contact Talpiot College in Toronto by email and was told that the College ran these tests ONLY in the morning from Monday to Friday.

I was asked to send name and postal address so they would send the related information and application forms.

I plan to contact Prometric in Montreal nesxt week.

It is nice of you to mention close test centers in the States but I am looking for test centers in Canada.

    Thanks to all.

Clep and similar exams in Canada

I contacted Prometric in Montreal and they told me via email they do not give the GRE examination right now in Montreal.

Talpiot College in Toronto does only CLEP .

Thanks to all and specifically to Orson.
