Mountain State University was Beckley College until August 2001. It is Regionally Accredited (http://www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org/directory/), but recently had a grade-selling scandal (http://www.hepc.wvnet.edu/news/122803clips.pdf). One of our members, Carlos M. Lorie, graduated from there in February (http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12468).

Wasn't Mountain State University formerly the College of West Virginia?

Founded in 1933 as Beckley College and known from 1991 to 2001 as the College of West Virginia. Thanks, Bruce.

    Gotcha.

The only reason I knew that was because my wife briefly considered enrolling in the College of West Virginia's DL Secretarial Science program.

She got pregnant with twins, and that ended her DL dream, at least for now.

Mountain State was formerly the College of West Virginia - the wife and I visited the campus in mid-2002 before deciding to move to coastal South Carolina and attend here. The college was fine and met our needs but the community lacked something == not an issue though for those interested in a DL program there. :)

We visited Col. WVa because of a fine rating that year in US News...

    Credits

Mtn State was very generous and awarded me 36 credits for my law enforcement training/academy. They have almost all the major academies cataloged.

    Just noticed the thread.

Just to follow up. I received materials from Mountain State, their programs look good. I am taking three courses this semester at another school, but I am most likely going to take courses at MSU next semester. They were very nice when I talked with them, and I just got a follow up letter from them in the mail. Hopefully, I will decide on a school soon and transfer all my credits in to finish up. I still need to schedule in and take some DSST or CLEP test, but with no DSST center close I have yet to do so.

If anyone is interested in MSU contact:

MSU has a great (IS) criminal justice program available to its students. I can also recommend the aviation program. As for the incident mentioned keep in mind that MSU was a victim of this and not a participant. This university is the best secrete in higher education.
