I have some of the same old questions. I am a deputy sheriff, and have been in law enforcement for 11 years. I would like to get a bachelors degree in criminal justice. I have already started an associates degree program at ashworth college but I would like to switch to a RA program. I have a little bit of credit with my local community college, but those credits are about 20 years old. I want to you use a degree to advance my carear and also maybe pursue a masters degree so that I can teach some later on down the road. I have also had alot of extra training and certifications that I have accumulated over the years. I am looking for a good degree at reasonable price, and like like so many others in this line of work, I have a crazy schedule. I have already learned quite a bit from reading this website, thank all of you for participating. Also need to know about cleps, dantes and all that stuff. please help.
I second the motion for Excelsior College's criminal justice program because they give a lot of credit for what you've already done.
Here is a fairly comprehensive list of RA CJ degrees by DL; Bellevue University Colorado Technical University Excelsior College Fort Hays State University Mountain State University National University New York Institute of Technology University of Phoenix Roger Williams University St. Joseph's College (Maine) St. Leo University Thomas Edison State College University of Findlay University of Texas Telecampus Washington State University
"I second the motion for Excelsior College's criminal justice program because they give a lot of credit for what you've already done." Only if it has been evaluated by ACE. I had a ton of training that wasn't transferred for credit. Some academies and so forth have been evaluated, alot have not.I would go to a local Junior College and talk to a counselor to find out if your academies/training have been evaluated by ACE instead of sending in $60 to Excelsior and find out they won't give you credit for it. Good luck. FED
C.J. Option I thought that you would also be interested in the fact that Charter State College is also offering a B.S. with a concentration in Public Safety Administration. Take a look at http://www.charteroak.edu/Visitors/psei.cfm I know that they have evaluated and give credits for academy courses for some states. I have taken some of the PSEI courses and they are 5 weeks in length and 3 s.h.
Thanks for all the help so far. There seems to be so much to learn. I have checked out Excelsior, It looks like they collect your credits for you but dont seem to offer any casses. It looks like they farm the classes out out to other schools. I am also looking at all the ways of testing out of classes, this web site has been a verry big help, but I still have alot to learn.
