listen people, everyone here has been very helpful. i can't believe what i am doing but i'm fully committed now. thanks to everyone here i now believe i can do it and i am now in full force.

i want to give a background and i hope i don't bore anyone but, i feel if it can encourage others it's all worth it.

i'm am a drop out who worked hard to get to the top of my profession. i also have five beautiful kids who rely on me and my (let's just say 6 figures) income to continue to give them the lifestyle that they have enjoyed. not that i have been a bigtime spender or anything but, yes, we do have nice things. the catch to it all is that work continues to become more and more competive. this adds more stress, travel and more time investment. obviously my kids need me and my honey does too. so, without the title behind my name it's almost impossible to live the way that we're used to without going into a high stress sales job again.

the solution: go and get myelf edjumucatted! right? well, how is this possible you ask? i'm glad you did ask. i done went and quit my job (i hope you are getting my dumb redneck act) and can't nobody do nothin about it. i now believe i can do it! i am down grading a few extra luxuries for the sake of my families sanity and buckling down for the super speed warp BSBA, then, on to graduate school. with that and my experience put together i should be afforded more options in my life. family is more important than dollars right? i have enough money to make it until september and hopefully i'll be ready for graduate school and figure out a way to regroup financially at that time. me and my brave wife are doing it together. i'm starting with a few hours and she is starting with none. the clock is ticking and there's no time to waste. we MUST push to get it done. man i seem to love the pressure?!

so, thank you to everyone here who posts and encourages! it has done all the good!

again, i hope i didn't bore you but, i thought everyone should know.

by the way, i plan on getting my MBA for sure but i have another question. what does a fella like myself who has no desire to teach do with a DBA? any suggestions?

also, i'm starting my own feed the newman's fund and it starts right here.

Quitting a job to complete an education is one huge incentive to get it done. I know. I did the same thing when I entered nursing school. Brings a new sense of urgency to what you are doing. Good luck with your adventure. I had great periods of doubt while I completed school, you may as well. Just stay on track and plug away at it. You should be able to knock out the tests in short order. Start scouting for the master's now because the process to get in can be quite intense. Good luck.

    GO GIT 'EM!

Best of luck to you skidadl!

You and I are in similar boats except mine is sleeker, minus the wife and kids.

It takes REAL COURAGE to do what you've done and it is for all the right reasons.

May God bless and keep you and yours! We're all pulling for you, so keep us posted on all your experiences and progress!

What an admirable thing you are doing. How's the public transit in Tampa?

Hey, we could all chip in and buy your Chevy Suburban as the official DegreeInfo staff car. $5 from each registrant here and . . . well, the logistics are challenging. "Hey, Chip, can I use the staff car tonight; I've got a hot date with Maxine." "Sorry, kid, the next available day is in 2007."

I certainly admire your devotion and commitment, but I really think you could have earned a "super speed warp" BSBA without quitting your job.

In any case....congratulations, and best of luck in your studies!!

For a hot date with Maxine, a more appropriate vehicle would be the Yugo GV. :D

well Bruce, traveling 3 weeks out of every month and having a demanding and extremely stressful job that requires you to work 80 or so hours a week might be a bit different than a regular job. oh yeah, 5 kids and well...i won't bore you with the rest of it. hope your not jealous about me getting to quit my job? j/k

    Hi Jeremy,

I am going to have to agree with Bruce that there are ways that you could earn a “super speed warp BSBA”. Maybe I missed it in your other threads but what University are you going to attend?

The Humanities test is a very hard test to start with. Pick your tests carefully as seekinghelp stated. Listen to the advice that the experienced members give here. It is very useful and it will save you time and most of all $ in the long run.

I also live in Tampa and there are several other members of this board that live in the general area. I understand why you posted your SUV on ebay. My SUV may be joining yours very soon. I can’t believe it takes me 1 hour or more to go 20 miles to get to work downtown. I pray every morning that there is not an accident or they need to move a construction vehicle at Malfunction Junction (Junction of I-275 and I-4 to Orlando). The construction on these two interstates has only been going on for the last 10 years or so I’d say. (Deb or mdoneil correct me if I’m wrong on the construction timeframe.) Oh well, I can keep my suntan in great shape and I am able to dry my hair in the sun on the way in.

Good Luck and I admire you for what you are doing.

Actually, I am a bit jealous, as well as dumbfounded as to how you could quit your job with 5 kids.

The grocery bill alone for my 2 is enough to keep my overtime maxed-out. :D

Well, like I said, I have been very blessed financially so that makes a diffrence. I have the finances to make it through Sept. when I hope to start graduate school, then I will go from there for an answer for the next year or so. As it was there were just too many things that were weighing heavy on me. The first being the lack of family time. I'm not talking just busy or stressed, it goes beyond that. It is hard to explain what the pressure is like when you travel three weeks out of the month with five kids at home, if you haven't been there. During those times are lonely days at the airport and constant pressure to push harder to meet objectives, deadlines and expectations. Then, the time that you are in town the work days are still long. When you finally get to go home you just colapse and everyone is disapointed that you can't throw the ball, go to the movies or spent quality time. Anyone who could finish a BS in four months under those circumsatances is probably not human. Hey, no matter what, I had to do something about my situation. This is the best option for me at this time and it wouldn't have happened if it weren't for this board.

No one knows your situation better than you. I horded funds for a year before I quit working. I remember during the middle of nursing school standing in K-mart and looking at underwear that was marked 7 pair for 7.00 and wondering if I should spend THAT much money (as I stood there in undies that would embarrass my mom should I be hit by a car and end up in the emergency room:D :D :D )

I'm sure you've thought about it and planned it out. When others are depending on you, you make good plans. Good luck Jeremy. Keep us advised as you go through this.
