Hello, I was wondering if anyone had or has first hand knowledge of anyone currently teaching community college with a Walden degree ? Thanks -Peter
No but you do occasionally see folks with Walden, Sarasota, Nova, degrees in higher ed. I would not think that CC would be a difficult proposition as it usually only requires a Masters. The PhD is for prestige and more money. Heck, there is a dude with a Berne UNiversity degree teaching at a community college in Portland. There were a series of interesting articles in USNews a couple of years ago or so dealing with the perception of would be academics who ended up teaching in community colleges due to a shortage of 4 year school slots. One women called her situation as one of *damaged goods* as far as 4 year schools were concerned because of her teaching in a cc. Reality is you teach where you can. Slots in 4 year schools are highly competitive, few and far between. There is even a trend among 4 year schools to hire more and more adjunct faculty. Good luck. North
I worked at a California Community College for over seven years and served on many hiring committees. A Walden Ph.D. should not be an issue at all for hiring and certainly will not be a disadvantage. Tony Pina Faculty, Cal State U. San Bernardino
Considering that many, many people teach at community colleges with just a Master's degree, I think it's safe to assume that a Walden Ph.D. would be acceptable for such a position.
Hello all - I am new to this forum. I am an adjunct at local community college and I know of two that specifically have a PhD degree from Walden. One of the gentlemen recieved it AFTER he obtained his position (he had a prevoius master's) while the other man obtained the job AFTER the PhD. His PhD is in Clinical Psychology (he is also licensed in the state of NY). I hope this helps you. peACE, ACE
I have had e-mail correspondence with a Walden Ph.D. who is currently teaching in Texas at a Baptist College and has taught in Virginia at a small college. I recall that they received their degree while teaching in Virginia.
