Does anyone have any experience with taking courses at LSU? It looks like classes are around $210 each, not bad. I don’t think you can complete an entire degree via Independent study. I’m thinking this might be a good place to pick up some credits I might have trouble testing out of. Anything I should keep in mind?

I think you can complete a Bachelor of General Studies through the University of New Orleans by transfering credits from LSU to UoNO.

A lot of people have asked or commented on LSU IS courses in the past. You can do a search and see those quetions and comments. I can tell you that I took Physical Sciences from LSU IS a few years ago, in 2000, I believe. It was done by correspondence. The school sent me a detailed syllabus, and I sent in assignments by snail mail. There were also, if I remember correctly, two proctored exams.

I liked the course very well. If you are the sort who can work independently, then LSU IS might work for you. I should mention that I think they do offer more courses over the Internet now, too.

    I'm taking two courses now.

I just started last week, two business law courses. Both courses are online and really easy to submit lessons.

At least in the two courses I'm taking, the instructor has done an unbeleivable job of lesson prep making things very easy to deal with.

You'll also find the great folks at LSU IS are very very friendly and very very helpful and you can't beat the price!

does the online course at LSU has any discussion/interaction with other students or is it just the material that is online and you work independent with no interaction with instructor or students ?

if not do you get any support from tutor (online or otherwise) in clarifying any course material issues/questions that you may have ?

No there isn't any interaction with other students. The courses are not that structured. You can begin any course any day of the week and the courses are entirely self-paced.

Communication is no problem with the instructor for my two courses, she is very accessible and forthcoming. There are probably differences between instructors and how responsive they will be just as there are in any B&M, these instructors are the same you'd get if you were sitting in a classroom at LSU.

Every time a lessson assignment is submitted online you are invited to send a message to your instructor. You can also call your instructor during office hours or communicate via email.

The admin staff is downright gracious and is always there and willing to help any way they can.

    Good Luck!!!

    Yes, but not from LSU

LSU IS does not offer ANY graduate level courses nor any degrees online.
