Me and my sweety are going to take the Clep at 9:30am. So far we have used the Cracking the Clep book and the ebay study guide, we also went ahead and bought the College Board Book too. We figured it would be best to buy those guides because we plan to take 4 of the general tests. This is our first one so we're a bit nervous! We're just getting started on this journey and we have a long way to go! I am starting with somewhere around 30 or so credits, my dear wife, none, poor thing! With practice tests around 50% what would our real scores be? I read that 1/4 of your wrong answers are throw out and you start with a 20 just for showing up, ot sure of the other factors or how true this is. Anyone know?

well, i've put in about 12 hrs of study and scored 45% correct. my wife, 48%. think thats enough to pass? i'm tired and want to rest up for the morning. by the way, for almost all of the material studies so far, i have never seen or heard of in my life. not a strong subject at all. can anyone tell me the practice score 50% that they got compared to the scaled score that they ended up with on ANY of the CLEP tests? i would love to know. help!

    SCORING
One thing people often fear when practicing for these exams, is their apparent poor performance. This is a standardized test. It would be very difficult to determine a range of performance if contents were skewed to produce an average "pass mark" of 90% (common in the U.S.). Instead we have to have enough questions and grades of quality of questions, that will accurately assess and reflect a range of abilities of the total population of examinees. Bottom line, look for 40% to 45% raw score for a standardized score of 50 (out of 80) in the subject and general CLEP exams.

This is directly from Lawrie Miller's site. Hope I don't get in trouble for copying it. Sounds to me like you a good to go.

That is a tough test to start with...good luck.

By the way there are many easier tests such as CLEP - General English, CLEP- Intro to Soc, CLEP - Histroy I, DANTES - Heres to You Health, etc.

    Best of Luck.

I started with the General Humanities CLEP, as well, and it wasn't easy! It covers such a huge arena that studying for it is tough. I used InstantCert.com and textbooks for it along with the study guides. I really like the REA books. I did pass it but it made me do my U.S. History CLEPS as 2 separate tests rather than the combined one that includes science. I decided not to be that greedy. Just keep with it.

  6. CLEP no longer deducts for incorrect answers and it's computer-based. You need a scaled score of 50 out of 80 to pass, which usually means you need about half of the answers correct.

I did pretty well on CLEP Humanities - it's certainly not unbeatable. Look on this site for Unixman's CLEP Oddysey where there are some details on the Humanities experience.

    Good luck!

You picked a difficult test for your first one. Don't assume that this will be an indicator of tests to come.

    not good!

well folks, i screwed up! my wife is not happy with me at all. 46 is definatley not passing. it was my first test and i just had SO much tension and energy built up about this test. i just couldn't stand it and i rushed to go get the first one out of the way. to tell you the truth i feel SO much better now. i'm not a good test taker at all and it was killing me to wait, i couldn't sleep the last week at all. see, the thing is, i said that i would take one test per week NO MATTER WHAT! i wanted to do all that i could to not fall short of my goal on the first week so i pushed it when i shouldn't have.

BUT, i have a new plan to follow and i still feel that this was a very valuable experience for me.

my plan: to have a good outline by monday morning for each test to be taken each friday. so the weekend is material preparation time, mon-thurs is study time and friday is test day. this way i will be able to study in short intervals more frequently instead of trying to cram it all in (not a good idea). this is roughly my 20 week plan. i'm sure there will be 2 test weeks and a few with no tests so it should average out.

so, for the others of you who are flunkies like me, you better speak up! don't leave me hanging all by myself!

    I WON'T GIVE UP!

    Hi Skidadl

I would confirm what others are saying. The Humanities test is tough unless you follow Art, Lit. and similiar fields. The Princeton Review is helpful but otherwise it is difficult to study for. If it were me I would chose a couple of the CLEP tests that are easier such as Management, Marketing, etc. Once you get a couple under your belt the test anxiety will ease a bit, although it will still be there. Good luck.

Signing up and taking an exam is most of the battle! Congrats for getting that far! 46 is really close to a 50! I'm in the same boat, I purchased the Humanities prep book from XENIA on ebay. I'm going to try to pass the exam with only her guide. I'm good at taking tests, with some luck I'll pull off a 50. Keep at it and let us know what other tests you are taking!

    thanks dave i appreciate it.

    by the way.

by the way, how do you post pictures here? i have before and after pictures of todays test. i thought it would be funny. i'm not a computre guy so somebody tell me how, if you could. even one picture was too big of a file.

  13. Bummer...but still very close - probably only 1-2 questions short.

Xenia's guide is useful for Humanities, especially for the Shakespeare links. If you know all of the material in this guide you should pass with points to spare.
