A colleague is interested in doing a Master's in biology and for convenience would prefer to do so through distance. We've done some searching, but it seems biology is a difficult subject to find at the postgraduate level. We've found a British bioinformatics program and University of Maryland's biotechnology program, but no straight up biology. Anyone know of one? It's for academic purposes, so RA/GAAP is required. Thanks! -=Steve=-
What kind of biology? Saint Joseph College has an online biology MS: http://ww2.sjc.edu/curriculum/bioweb/Distancelearning.htm U. Maryland (the real one, not UMUC) has a DL Master's in Life Sciences aimed at science teachers: http://www.onlinestudies.umd.edu/mlfsc/ Liverpool John Moores has MSc in virology: http://cwis.livjm.ac.uk/virology/ Nebraska has entomology: http://entomology.unl.edu/educatn/distancems.htm There are quite a few DL bioinformatics programs (e.g. Manchester, Exeter, KSI). Also a large number of programs in conservation, environmental sciences, etc. U. London has a variety of biology-related external programs: epidemiology, infectious diseases, structural biology.
It's not exactly biology but the University of Florida has distance programs in DNA/Serology and Entomology. http://www.distancelearning.ufl.edu/degrees.aspx
The Universtiy of Mississippi offers a Master of Science in General Biology The University of Nebraska - Kearney offers a Master of Science in Biology.
I completed the MLFSC program at the University of Maryland and was very happy with it. I found it equally as challenging as my previous masters which was face-to-face.
