I am new to this board and new to the investigation of legitimate online/distance learning programs.

I am an adjunct English faculty member at East Tennessee State University and am interested in uncovering the legitimacy claimed by some of the local prominent members of the community outside of the University.

One such member is a local pastor of a 3000 member church. This man calls himself "Dr." and states that he has a D.Min from Trinity Evangelical Seminary of Florida in Naples. He also stated that he has done post-doctorate work at Oxford University in England, which if true, could not be more than a non-credit summer study program or a seminar.

Please advise me concerning any information anyone has concerning this institution and its requirements.

    Thanks,
    Tonya F. Stansberry

I performed a google search on "Trinity Evangelical Seminary of Florida" I found the following site http://trinityseminaryintl.injesus.com/

Every link I follow as a result of the search points me back to this site. It appears that this site is a discussion board rather than a school so it appears that either this school doesn't have a web site or this school was real at one time and is no longer in business or they were never a real school.

I also looked on yahoo yellow pages and anywho.com and found no phone number for said school.

    HTH,

    Look elsewhere.

    Go to Jason Baker's site.

    Instructor Stansberry,

Perhaps a phone call to these "prominent members of the community," accompanied by a few questions, would facilitate your "interest in uncovering the legitimacy" of these individuals.

    Beware...

The Trinity Seminary in Naples, Florida is not to be confused with the regionally accredited Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and sister school Trinity International University (undergrad and grad). The legitimate Trinity has a South Florida campus in Miami. No connection with the Naples one.

    Tonya,
Say hello to Ronnie Giles for me.

    Howard,

I will say hello to Dr. Giles gladly. It is funny; a person signs on to a world wide web message board and immediately is reminded how terribly small this planet is.

    For everyone,
Thanks for the feedback and advice. I have tried to find a copy of Steve Levicoff's book "Name it and Frame it." I think it has an entry on Trinity Evangelical. If anyone has it and can let me know, I would appreciate it.

    Another Trinity in Florida

There is yet another Trinity in Florida ( which would make a trinity of Trinities)
    http://www.trinitycollege.edu/

They moved from their old home in Dunedin, Florida which was then occupied by Schiller International University.

Neither are RA, but apparently legitimate schools, at least judging from persons with whom I am acquainted that attended these institutions.

I have faxed Ms. Stansbury the listing from the Diploma Mills section of Dr. Levicoff's book. He suggests a five-page paper was needed to 'earn' the doctorate.

    Just curious....point?

Finding out if you Mayor, Minister, or Mousketeer is an academic fraud need have some ulterior motive?

Neither a vendetta or a hobby.

There was an article about him and his growing congregation in our local paper a couple of months ago. Recently, two weeks ago, there was an article about him again and his claims to being an expert on the occult. This followed with a healthy dose of his bashing every group other than his church, i.e. the Masonic Lodge, Martial Artists, etc.

After this I became curious as to his claims, so I checked out his web site and his resume. Once I realized that I had never heard of any of the schools that were listed, I became suspicious that he was a fraud.

If I ever write the expose on him, meaning I can gather enough information about the entirity of his claims, it could be big, at least for this area.

It is not a personal vendetta, but I have just been obsessed with the idea of it for the past couple of weeks.

This search has led me to want to uncover more fraud. I don't know why I feel the need to, but someone's claims to being an expert in anything always tend to throw up a "red flag" to me. Plus this kind of research gets me away from reading what I am used to and into a new field, which is kind of exciting.

I hope that is OK, and that I do not sound too derranged.

Doctor Jim says, from his site, "God wants ... His people to prosper financially and materially. He wants His people to not be subservient to lenders, but to be lenders."

WWJD? Throw 'em out of the temple, perhaps?

I called this "school" many years ago after receiving my Bachelor's degree to find out about their Master's programs. At that time I was totally ignorant of religious degree mills. I'll never forget when I asked the guy on the phone what the requirements were for a Master of Divinity degree. He replied, "Well, you have some ministry experience and I'm sure you have some papers filed on your computer. Send those in with the tuition and you'll meet our requirements." I was floored by what I heard. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised by this kind of stuff anymore.

Thanks to Dr. Bear; I received the fax.

Also, I do not know if I should publicly name this person yet. Maybe I will later. I need to finalize some things yet.

I think that I will try to call this "school." Where did you find the phone number? Maybe I could call the church that it is affiliated with and they could give me the information.

    Shades of Rev. Ike!

I remember the Rev. Ike parishioner (if that's what they are) who said, on his program, that she had prayed all night long for a washing machine, and in the morning, there was a brand new washing machine on her doorstep, three flights up.
