I am just starting out w/ Excelior College and I wanted to see if some of you could help me out. What material did you use to study for Excelsior Exams. For exmple, EC lists 2 books for their Organizational Behavior test. Together they cost like $230!!(of course, then you have to pay for the exam). BAin 4weeks recommends just one book(a different book altogether: A Barron's HR book). What have you guys used to study for tests and how have they worked out for you?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Travis

Don't buy your textbooks new. An edition that's a few years old won't harm your grade. Try http://www.half.com, http://used.addall.com, or http://www.amazon.com (which often has "Buy it used").

If you want practice questions beyond the official sample questions, you may have to spring for a Rudman's Passbook.

    Mark,

What if it is an older edition(ie, a 9th instead of the 10th used now) ??

You can get an A even with the 8th edition. They don't change the questions that much.

    Travis,

Whether the exam is Excelsior, CLEP, or DANTES look for the recommended text, and follow Mark's advise regarding half.com
Don't worry if it's an older edition I've done it this way for the past year with good success.

I followed the recommendations at BAin4weeks.com much more often than the recommendations from Excelsior. And in most cases, I took the recommendations from others on this board above all else, just do a search for the particular test you're taking. I believe for the Organizational Behavior test, others on this board recommended a certain site with lecture notes.

Every student is going to be different, and each situation is different. For me, I'm concerned solely with passing the test in most cases and not so much with becoming an expert on that particular subject, so I study the bare minimum to hit my targetted grade.

I'm keeping a detailed "journal" of my testing odyssey here, where I list my prep materials and experiences with individual tests. Unixman created a similar thread when he was testing, and it was helpful to me and others.

Not sure why this link didn't work the first 2 times I tried, but the lecture notes that I mentioned are here. I used only these and got an A on the Organizational Behavior exam. That site also has notes for Human Resources Management.

I'd say 80% of the time I used BAin4weeks recommendations and they worked very well (good combination of price and length of study for grade earned). I'd say you're safe with any book that covers a majority of the topics listed in the exam outline.
