I can not comment on the online program, but I do have a Social Science degree from SUNY Stony Brook. The school is well recoginized here in NY and the classes although large were well taught. Overall it was a great experence .

This seems like it is a great opportunity, and without a GMAT.

I have no experience with the program. But it does look like a good flexible Master's. The course selection is somewhat limited -- depending on one's desired focus.

More expensive than many (e.g. 2.5 times higher than CSUDH HUX).

SUNY Stony Brook is a very respected school at the graduate level. I studied there long ago, and while I did not have a great experience, there were some highly distinguished profs in many departments across the university.

That said, I looked into the dl master's in liberal studies a couple years ago, and it appeared rather flaky. The faculty are *not* the "real" SUSB faculty, as I recall, and the program seemed very much aimed at the public school teacher who wants to append a master's degree to his or her name to get a pay raise.

Intellectually, I was not impressed. Quite a disappointment. It is hard to find a DL master of liberal studies that *is* impressive. My votes at present might be for the University of Oklahoma, Cal Sate Dominguez Hills, or the University of Toledo. (Excelsior looks ok, also, but I have never encountered anyone who has gone there at the grad level. When I asked the program for the name of someone I could speak to, they refused me.)
