    Hello again.

Are there any good MBA programs in the US that are as flexible as the EBS MBA? In other words, are there MBA programs that allow one to do independent study without all of the virtual classroom stuff. I prefer studying on my own.

    Thanks,
    Travis

What do you mean by virtual classroom stuff? Do you mean no group interaction, or reporting to BB postings, or chats?

Based on my looking at doctoral programs a while back, I would say no.

The reason being the diffeence in approaches between UK and US schools. In the UK (and SA and OZ) the emphasis in the graduate level is on research programs, where you hook up with a professor and study what he tells you to. Thus each program is indelendtently structured. In the US the emphasis is on course work wher you have to meet a certain level of predefined classes before you go into the one on one phase.

Also the UK model has traditionally been based on one final exam at the end of a course (for course work) where you can study indepently.

This has lead some of the UK schools to develope their MBA programs around you doing your own studying and taking one set of exams.

The US traditionally gives you feed back during the course to make sure you are learning the material correctly.

Both have their good and bad points, but it means for an entirely indepenedt study program llok overseas.

Hi Travis - There are programs that allow students to study one-on-one, most are nationally accredited rather than regionally accredited and if you have been around for a while you know the distinction. Aspen University, of which I am the president and which most folks agree is a good school even though we are nationally accredited, does allow students to study one-on-one, but you still use the virtual classroom to post your assignments and to get your feedback from the instructor. There are also time limits for completion - some independent study programs do not impose completion times, we find that without them some people never start, let alone finish.

    Good luck!
