I've been going back and forth trying to decide which of these 2 schools to go with for a degree and would like get some feedback on them. I first chose Capella because it sounded like there courses are very much project-related. More projects, less papers and tests. Of course, I'm sure it depends on the course. They have also been great to work with during the admissions process. On the other hand, their course are expensive ($1275). I am in the military and have TA to to cover part and GI Bill to cover the rest. TA is capped at $4500 per year so at some point GI Bill will be paying for the whole class. Also, they don't give full credit for an AAS degree. There will likely be some Gen Ed classes (or CLEPs) I will have to take. JIU classes are cheaper ($768) so TA covers all but $18 and I probably won't use all $4500 in a year. They give full credit for the AAS so I can start right into the third year. But, I haven't been able to find out as much about their classes and how they work. I guess I'm starting to lean towards JIU but any feedback anyone has is greatly appreciated.
my two cents I really enjoyed my time as a student at Capella, although you're certainly right that it is expensive. You didn't say what branch of the military you're in -- are you in the Army? If so, have you considered going through eArmyU? http://earmyu.com Regards, Adrienne
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Capella. FSU is a great university, and with PhD from there, you will certainly be a part of the next generation of B&M tenured faculty with a better perception of people with distance learning degrees. -S
