30 years ago this June I set out on an educational adventure. For a number reasons, none of them very good, I failed to complete my bachelor's. After kicking around with the idea of finishing it for many years, I came across Dr. John Bear's fine guide book which led me to this website.

In the past month of being a member and reading the posts here, I have gained knowledge and inspiration and encouragement, and most importantly the self-confidence to finish that bachelors degree and to move beyond.

I am enrolled in some DL courses at LSU independant study to earn the last 14 credit hours which will finish that first BA and eventually with some more work get a BSc in Accounting and qualify me to sit for the CPA in Louisiana, hopefully in 2005.

When that goal is reached the next goal is admission to law school.

So a personal but public thank you to Dr. John Bear, all the good folks who work so hard to maintain this website and the others like BAin4weeks, and a special thanks to all of you who come to this forum and share your knowledge and experiences with the rest of us on DL and educational opportunities in general.

This site and this forum is an unbeleivably valuable resource!

Since I found this site in November, I've told every nurse I work with who holds an associates degree and wants to go higher about it. There are now 4 of us in my unit finishing up bachelor's degrees and two of us have applied to master's programs. It's amazing what a little ummmph! from this board will do for people. Mostly, people don't understand how many many programs are out there and how many options are available to finish what was started so many years ago. We are all so used to only B&M schooling. I'm thankful for the internet everyday. It's opened the world to us. I am still amazed though how those who hold degrees from only my employer (UK) see distance education, as though it is so inferior. Well, whatever. I think it will get me where I want to go much quicker and much more economically.

I can't wait for the day that I post, I did it, I'm done, and thanks to all who helped me get there.

    Thanks for the kind comments!

For me the greatest thing about this forum is how many people are willing to share their expereinces both positive and negative.

That is what makes this forum such a valuable learning expereience in and of itself.

DL is definitely NOT for everyone! To do it well and accomplish something requires a great deal of maturity and self-discipline. The sharing here provides much needed support for all of us in reinforcing our own maturity and self-discipline!
