You may want to check Amberton Amberton University has an MA in "Professional Development", which is essentially a degree with two required courses (Ethics and Research Methods), and the remaining 30 credits (of a 36 credit MA) can be assembled from any combination of graduate electives/courses in their catalog. You can freely mix business, counseling, management, etc. type of courses. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it works for me! Good luck. - Carl
The McGregor School at Anticoh University in Yellow Springs, Ohio offers such a program. I graduated in 1989. You do need to make two short trips to campus which are very rewarding. One is at the beginning of the program and the other at the midpoint. Check out: http://www.mcgregor.edu John
Hi. Don't get me wrong--I'm all for interdisciplinary study and caught holy h*ll from a grad philology department for being TOO interdisciplinary (whatever that means). What exactly are you interested in? I ask this because there may actually be a name for the combined interests that drive you, and somebody here may know of a school, or a department, or even a professor who could be a close match. Best of luck to you.
If I remember correctly, the Masters degree program in Independent Studies from Lesley University can be tailored to be "interdisciplinary." Jack

Yes. CSUDH offers two curriculum plans, both interdisciplinary in nature and both combining work in philosophy, literature, history, art and music. "Curriculum B" allows a student to specialize (somewhat) in one particular area (see the "dual 18" thread), while "Curriculum A" allows students to follow a theme or issue of interest to them as it swerves across the five disciplines. http://www.csudh.edu/hux/program.html Btw, CSUDH-HUX is celebrating its 30'th birthday, having been founded in 1974. It was one of the first accredited DL graduate programs in the United States and it's still going strong.
You might be interested in Texas Christian University's Master of Liberal Arts degree, which is one of the most flexible graduate programs I've seen.
Thanks to all who have responded thus far. Uncle Janko, in answer to your question: I am looking for a way to do a degree in Practical Theology by submitting an original collection of Christian poetry. I don't want to do a creative writing/English degree, nor do I want to do a primarily research-based Practical Theology degree which uses poetry simply as resource/reference material. So far I haven't been able to find a program where I could sructure the degree in the way I described. If anyone knows of such a program, I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.
I know Mountain State also offers an interdisciplinary master's, but I don't know if I could structure it in the way I have mentioned. I'll contact them and ask.
One note: Union's master's program is out of Vermont College. While Union has had financial problems with the USDoE and will make some changes to the Ph.D. program based on the OBR report, the school should survive and the master's program will likely not change.
Empire State College Check out Empire State College (SUNY system). They have an MA in Liberal Studies that would readily accommodate your project. You have to take a few weekend residential seminars in critical thought (four of them, I believe). For that you would have to travel to NY state a few times, but essentially the program is a distance-learning one that you design and pursue yourself over two years. Another prospect is the University of Oklahoma Master of Liberal Studies, More prestigious and lengthier (3-4 years) program, but the same concept. A self-designed reading/writing degree overseen at a distance by their core faculty, plus a couple weeks on campus here and there. Good luck, Peter
Billdayson is correct. CSUDH's MA in Humanities (which is what he described ) is available as a distance learning degree through their external program.
Do any South African, Australian, or UK schools offer an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies? BTW, I heard from Mountain State; they said I would be able to combine Practical Theology and creative writing.
