Previously I queried about A candidate for nomination for the California State Assembly claims to have earned a PhD from "St Stephens University" in Los Angeles. [/QUOTE]

It was discovered that this "St Stephens" had no connection to the legitimate St Stephens University in New Brunswick, although the name of the LA school was linked to the legitimate one, on one of the few lists that included it on the web.

I think this degree mill is a candidate in the worst name competition: St. Stephens Educational Bible College

Here's the portion of the newspaper story that resulted from my research:

Moore, who says she is running to expose corruption, has been criticized in recent days for frequently referring to herself in campaign literature as "Dr. Shirley Moore." She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree in 1997 from St. Stephens Educational Bible College in Los Angeles for her service with the Congress of Racial Equality. Inland Valley Daily Bulletin 2/29/2004

I'm pleased to report that a subsequent article stated: In the only other contested Assembly primary, Ontario Councilman Alan Wapner was pummeling fellow Republican Shirley Moore at the polls, taking a bulk of the vote in the 61st Assembly District, according to preliminary results.

(this information is a repost of stuff that I posted on the thread "St Stephens University: a degree mill?"

Good start for a politician. If Shirley Moore wants to expose corruption in politics, perhaps she should add her name to the list of scoundrels.

    ?

Ok, enlighten us on the history of this name. It has to be interesting. And to think, a friend of mine from California used to laugh at some of our place names in the "sticks".

Thanks for the good work, warguns.

Chris: And to think, a friend of mine from California used to laugh at some of our place names in the "sticks".

John: The street I live on, in this San Francisco suburb, was originally called "Chicken Shack Road." I gather about 20 years ago, the residents petitioned for change.

    Bogus PhD

Warguns, did she win the GOP nomination in the March 2nd primary ? If she had only said she had a BA degree and not a PhD, she probably wouldn't have been questioned. But the "PhD" and her rally cry to "expose corruption" is too much to pass up. Have you shared this info with the anyone in the 4th Estate ?

Gunsmoke: How about Dry Prong, Louisiana 71423?

John: Don't they have a 'sister city' program with Larry Bird's hometown, French Lick, Indiana?

No, French Lick's partner city is Climax, NC 27235.

    "...Climax, NC..."

...from where you can take the inter-urban trolley to Intercourse, PA, and on to Humptulips, Washington.

Okay, how about Knob Knoster, MO? To me, it sounds like a something you do or have done.

Which reminds me of a chain of British hardware stores called "Knobs and Knockers". It's true.

I just booked a trip so I can observe the town's major festivals: Dildo Days and Klon-dyke Weekend.
