I would like to know if the Ashworth College Masters of Criminal Justice self paced?

Is it possible for a student to accelerate and finish the degree in as little as six months? I am curious because I am interested in the program because it is very cheap. How does the payment plan work, is it a pay what you can afford plan. Is there any loans available, besides the payment plans?

I also know the school has DETC accreditation, is this a bad thing? Can I use the degree to teach Criminal Justice courses at a private middle school or high school, or at a vocational or lesser known, lowly ranked private or community college? How is this degree also viewed in the "Criminal Justice" indusrty?

Does Ashworth College have graduates of this program who went on to law schools with the degree? Would law schools consider DETC coursework?

I would appreciate any feedback you have on this program. Thanks in advance.

All of the answers to your questions were obtained directly from Ashworth College's Master of Criminal Justice website:

    http://masters.ashworthcollege.edu/academic/mj/index.cfm

I suggest you download a catalog (You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the catalog online. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, you can download it for free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html
Or, if you prefer, you may request information sent via the postal service.

    Yes.

Accelerate? Yes. Six months? No. The Ashworth degree is designed for completion in two years. However, their catalog states that the degree can be completed in as little as one year.

The total cost of the MCJ is: $3889.00. Ashworth DOES have a payment plan: A down payment of $99.00; interest-free monthly payments of $99.00 each month for 38 months; plus a final payment of $28.00.

    NOTE: FOR EMPLOYED INDIVIDUALS
Some students may be eligible for full or partial reimbursement of their tuition by their employers. Your company may be able to take advantage of The Employee Education Assistance Act (IRS Code, Section 127). Check with your supervisor or personnel department.

I cannot answer these questions. The DETC is a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Dept. of Education. Speak with people in the criminal justice field and inquire about the educational requirements, acceptance, and utility of a nationally accredited degree.
