The Economist has its usual mix of wonderful and non-wonderful programs. An interesting one this week is the MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio World College, an "affiliate" of WASC-accredited Alliant International University. The MBA is a 2-year, 60-credit program with five 3-day residencies per semester (i.e. 60 days total residency) and the rest of the program online.
The San Francisco Presidio is a former Spanish military facility that dates back to the 18'th century. It used to be a major west coast headquarters of the US Army and now belongs to the National Park Service. http://www.presidio.gov/ http://www.nps.gov/prsf/ http://www.nps.gov/prsf/home.htm There are worse locations for a college, I guess. There's another former Spanish presidio in Monterey, the old capital of Spanish California. This one remains in the control of the Army and houses the Defense Language Institute, the US DoD's main foreign language school. http://pom-www.army.mil/
Just for the record. Presidio means penitenciary, prison , at least it does in Castile, where I am from. The name evokes those guys doing hard labor with blue stripes uniform, and an iron ball attached to their legs to prevent them from escaping . It sounds so odd for a college name. Just an anecdote.
